[ kenma's newest enchanted psp has been working really, really well for him lately. this is one of the very, very few (we're talking one of two) things in the entire world that makes him get excited, because the thing about being at a school that's magical is that technology doesn't work. kenma doesn't particularly care that it's a big deal that he had magical ability. he doesn't particularly care about a lot of things besides the new final fantasy game that came out the day he had to leave for his fifth year term.
but, with a little bit of ravenclaw ingenuity, he at least has the thing working. he has to chase it across the dormitory every now and then, considering how it occasionally flutters away like it could fly, but kenma'll take it. it's better than not having it.
hogwarts is honestly, a little bit of a bore. but he has friends here (shouyou, yaku, kuroo... lev, he guesses....) and though it's troublesome as hell, he sticks around. he kind of enjoys quidditch, maybe. he kind of enjoys transfiguration. he's pretty good at the rest of his subjects--they all come easy to him. he enjoys hanging out with shouyou, and...kuroo's here, which helps him feel a little more comfortable, admittedly.
though, kenma hadn't seen kuroo all day. the fact only crosses his mind once as he plays through a level, and he's only distracted from a game when something leaps up on his bed. kenma looks up from his psp, catlike eyes lifting just above the screen to see a black cat staring at him. is this one of his dormmates? he looks left, then right, slowly to see if anyone will claim him before he reaches out two tentative fingers towards the cat. what the hell. it's kind of cute... ]
[ Ever since they grew up together - in a very unconventional friendship all around, given their personalities and their backgrounds - Kuroo hasn't ever really kept anything from Kenma in the past. A few surprises and tricks, sure, but that's just who he is, and it's never malevolent in the long run. But it's strange, thinking he needs to hide this from his friend until he finally gets a handle on it. The others have all helped, unconventional as they are. (It had been his and Bokuto's idea, first. Daichi just got dragged into it when Oikawa decided it was interesting enough for him. No surprise there.)
Funnily enough, becoming an unregistered animagus is probably about as illegal as the enchanted PSPs that Kenma keeps making out of the ones that he's brought or buys himself. But that's hardly what matters.
What matters is that Kuroo finally managed to pull it off, and finds very little difficulty in getting into the Ravenclaw common room. He just follows along at the heels of one of the students, and makes his way expertly to where Kenma's dorm is. With no one around, he just hops up onto the bed and waits until he's noticed - which results in him purring softly, satisfied with himself. He stares with his own cat eyes into Kenma's, tipping his nose forward to rub his head beneath his fingertips in greeting, purr resonating loudly.
Now to see how long it takes for him to realize it's him. ]
[ the cat is distracting enough for the moment that kenma puts his game on pause, which is enough of a shock in its own right. kenma's not really adverse to animals or anything--he doesn't have strong opinions on them, but he doesn't have strong opinions on a lot of things--though if he had to pick, he could say that he liked cats. they had a lot in common.
as the cat purrs at him and touches his fingers, a flicker of a smile crosses over kenma's face. it's blink and you'll miss it, his smile usually reserved for video games (or sometimes for shouyou) but it's there, and kenma quietly gives the cat a small scratch on the top of the head. it's kind of cute. must be one of the other boys' cats, though kenma hadn't seen it around before.
still, there was something off here, but kenma really wanted to get back to final fantasy. he stares at the cat for a second before he lifts his arms up, still holding onto his psp, to give it the chance to walk onto his chest before he puts his arms back down and rests the game on top of its head. there. that works.
kenma likes cats because they're low maintenance. they're lazy. they're smart. they remind him a lot of his stupid best friend. it's the little things. ]
[ If Kuroo had the eyebrows to do it, he would be raising them in surprise at the fact that Kenma sets aside his PSP so that he can pay attention to him in his animagus form. Not a lot will get him to set aside his video games or his phone, but it's kind of nice to have his undivided attention for a moment. It's not even that he's preening about it, mostly that it's just... yeah, it's nice. And it's nice to get that smile, because very few things make him smile like that, either.
He purrs louder as he gives him a scritch, but it mellows out again once he starts staring. Rather than look away, he simply meets his gaze, intent and interested. Behind him, Kuroo's tail flicks back and forth, and he waits attentively for Kenma to decide what he wants to do.
And, once it ends up being inviting him closer, he happily moves to his paws and moves to climb up his body. Rather than clambering around all over, he steps delicately, making sure not to get him in the stomach or anywhere else painful as he moves to curl up comfortably, resting his head over his heart and accepting his role as a PSP perch. ]
[ this is fine. kenma kind of likes this cat. not only is this one low maintenance, but it's apparently pretty tolerant. kenma plays his way through another level of the game, slowly grinding so his party's levels will be ready for the next boss--the process takes about twenty minutes, with him only glancing up once to look at the cat, curled up happily on his chest.
when he glances up, though, he spots the curl on the top of the cat's head. it looks like it had just done a bad job bathing itself, or something, at first, but kenma starts to think, still holding his psp. a too tolerant cat who found his bed and crawled up into it with no pretense.
abruptly, he sits up, dumping the cat off of his lap, and puts down his psp to pick up the cat, holding it under the arms and out a little bit, expression annoyed (but maybe closer to pouting than pissed off...not that much gets him pissed off, either.) ] Kuroo.
[ he knows thats you, you shit, give up the ghost ]
[ Those twenty minutes are comfortable, and pleasant, and Kuroo basks in them as he has himself a bit of a nap. The noises from Kenma's PSP don't bother him all that much, even if they're rather close to his ears, unlike the usual background buzz that he gets when he usually coexists with Kenma. But it's still white noise to him, and he can doze while he level grinds. It's a pretty common thing, anyways, this sort of hanging out.
Minus laying on Kenma, although he has dropped across his lap before.
But, eventually, the jig is up. He blinks open golden cat eyes as he's suddenly jerked up and off by Kenma sitting up, staring up at him - and then at him as he's held up. His tail flicks lazily, absently, and he lets out a deep, amused niao~ before wiggling around in his grip.
Once he gets free, Kuroo moves away from him and sits at the opposite end of the bed. It'd be funny to shift back while in his grip, but he's not Oikawa. He's not that rude. So, with a fluid shift in magic, he sits there, cross-legged and naked, and chimes teasingly: ] Ken~ma.
[ kenma goes bright red, mostly because the last thing he wanted to see was kuroo naked on his bed, what the fuck, and he scowls at him as he very pointedly looks away, staring at the curtains around his bed instead of at the person who was, five seconds ago, a cat who was lying on his chest. how embarrassing... ]
You're an animagus. [ it's not a question, it's a fact, and he waits until kuroo at least has his lap covered with a pillow before he looks back, still tinged red, kind of annoyed, but psp also totally forgotten. ] When did that happen.
[ Taking the pillow that smacks him in the face, Kuroo has the decency to cover himself with it, sitting there nice and calm and smiling placidly like the sated cat he, in fact, is. He makes sure to tug at the curtains a little so it's just the two of them, no one else in the Ravenclaw dormitory. After all, he's fine with his nudity, but he doesn't want to embarrass Kenma too much. ]
Yep~ [ Confirmation more than an answer, as he debates whether he wants to subtly nudge the PSP somewhere out of reach or if heought to just leave his feet where they are. He opts to leave his feet where they are for now. ] I finally got the hang of it this week, but I still haven't managed the clothes.
[ kenma doesn't even need to ask whose idea that was (he would put every video game in his collection on the fact that it was bokuto) and his brows lower a little as he watches kuroo through those too sharp golden eyes. it becomes clear (or at least it would to kuroo, who spoke fluent kenma) that he's actually a little miffed. not at kuroo for being naked (admittedly, a little, mostly because he's embarrassing and his butt's on his sheets and if kenma was the type to care about romantic stuff outside of otome games which he absolutely, definitely is not no way in hell) but more so that he didn't tell him. they tell each other everything. ]
...right. [ he mutters, picking up his psp again and letting the curtain of his blonde and black hair fall over his face. to the untrained eye, this kenma is a normal kenma, just looking apathetic and playing his games, when in fact this kenma is a sulking kenma. a little bit. did he really think kenma wasn't going to figure out it was him? ]
[ Ahhh~ Kuroo knows exactly why Kenma is making that face at him, and he can't help the heavy, somewhat dramatic sigh as he shifts forward where he's seated. He, very conscientiously and graciously, keeps the pillow firmly held over his lap as he moves, because Kenma would probably make more faces at him if he didn't. Sure, he'll have to replace the pillow because he's had it pressed over his dick, but that's to be expected and is only polite. ]
Kenma. [ Carefully, without touching him with the rest of his body, he rests his cheek against the top of his brown hair and sighs heavily. ] I wanted to surprise you, you know? [ He nuzzles, in catlike affection that's not a new thing in the least bit. ] Sorry I didn't tell you sooner. It just took a while.
[ kenma was originally going to not bother looking at him, mostly because kuroo was being dumb, but keeping his head in his psp meant that went kuroo moved up the bed kenma got an eyeful of pretty much everything, so he had to look up, just in time to catch a nuzzle to his forehead. he shuts an eye and looks up at him, frown still in place on his face, unwavering even if his expression is only sort of mild annoyance.
he's totally 100% sulking. ] What kind of a surprise is that supposed to be?
[ what good does it do him when you're a cat, kuroo, jfc. but, admittedly, his wall comes down a little bit when he puts his cheek on his head, and kenma huffs a little, soft as air sigh. ]
I don't know, just a surprise. [ With a third sigh, but this one more fond rather than heavy, Kuroo turns his head enough to bury his nose into the natural color of his hair, letting him brush his lips against his forehead. It's not really much of a kiss, but it's still a display of affection, the barest of things to keep Kenma from closing his walls down. ] I knew you'd figure it out, though.
[ His clever, bright Kenma, of course he would. Of that, he had no doubt. Now, though, it's just a matter of making it up to him for, you know. Making him guess instead of just outright telling him and then showing him the second time he changed into a cat. Which, ironically fitting, but he's not going to focus on it too much right now.
Instead, he's just going to sit there, carefully poised so that the only point of contact is where he's tucked his face against him. ]
[ the compliment just makes him blush a little, the faint kiss too, and kenma bites his lip and looks away. it's kind of cool, if dangerous. kenma also thinks its probably useless, but could think of no better animal for kuroo than the slinky black cat that he'd appeared to be, so. who knows. applying logic to kuroo and bokuto when they're together is generally considered impossible.
shutting his eyes for a second, kenma gives up a little and leans backwards to look at him properly. it's just for long enough so that he can analyze his face, try to pin down what he's thinking (the thing is with kuroo is that more often than not, he just says what he's thinking, but after fifteen years of friendship, he's going to continue to try and read him.) after that, he slots his gaze away again, but the burning flush on his face returns, and it feels obvious even to kenma in the dim light of his room, psp's white glow illuminating their faces. ]
...You left a pair of your underwear here. [ he says, not much of a segue. but it's kenma speak for put them back on, please. ]
[ If asked, Kuroo has a whole list of reasons why he and Bokuto decided to do what they did. It's cool, it would be fun to try, it would confuse everyone when they did certain things that were required - like holding the leaf of mandrake in their mouth for a month, which the two of them used as a prank for a "vow of silence" in classes - nevermind the things they could do once they attained their forms. But there's a reason why it was he and Bokuto (and Oikawa and Daichi) that did what they did, and that's the sure knowledge that Kenma wouldn't really care all that much about it, as he is wont to not care about much.
He meets his gaze easily as he leans back, placid and softly smirking as he so often does, hardly bothered by their proximity or his nudity. Because he knows exactly what Kenma is doing, and he lets him. Fifteen years, and it's normal to him, almost expected sometimes. Besides, looking at him like this, he gets to watch that blush creep up across his face again, and it makes his smirk widen a little more. ]
Ohoho~? I'll find them. [ The smirk turns into a smile, and Kuroo shifts to get to his knees, swooping in to press an actual kiss between Kenma's brows before he disappears to the other side of the curtain, taking the pillow with him. ]
[ jeez. kuroo is as troublesome as ever, and kenma shuts both of his eyes when he kisses his forehead and looks after him for a brief second, watching him disappear through the curtain. none of the other boys are home at the moment (most of the ravenclaws had gone out to celebrate their recent quidditch victory over hufflepuff, but the smallest seeker had chosen to stay home) and he knows no one's actually going to see, but still. a pillow is definitely not pants, kuroo.
he waits a couple of seconds and pokes his head out of the curtains once he's sure kuroo's busy, small fingers holding onto the curtains near his neck as he watches him move around. kuroo is just...kuroo, his best friend, but sometimes he thinks of him as the route of some kind of dumb otome game; he's undeniably attractive in a way that often makes kenma uncomfortable. it's not...in a bad way, really. it's just weird, maybe.
he's thinking this over as he watches kuroo bend down to get into his trunk, and it's only when he realizes that kuroo's noticed him staring that he shoots backwards, disappearing back behind the drapes with a tiny squeak of a noise. ]
[ A pillow is better than nothing, although it's not as if he actually holds onto it the moment that he's off the bed and on the other side of the curtains. Instead, Kuroo drops it down next to the bed and saunters around to his trunk, knowing that they're probably in there. He pokes around, humming cheerfully to himself as he does.
Despite the fact that the Ravenclaw team won their match, he knew that Kenma would be here instead. It's not really much of a surprise - he's always been like this, and for a long time the Gryffindor was his only company. A part of him is deeply thankful for the Hinata kid, because there's been very few people that Kenma has ever accepted into his life as a close friend. There isn't anything like jealousy in him about it, either, considering the fact that their relationship is something far more than just friends. But, bent over and pulling his underwear up, hearing the little squeak, he knows without a doubt that he'll only ever take whatever Kenma is open to giving him.
Kuroo pokes his face through where Kenma had been peering out from only moments before, leaning down so that his ass sticks out behind him and he's more on the Ravenclaw's level ] Hey, hey. Are you hiding from me, kitten?
[ kenma didn't mean to stare, really, and he's got his face in his hands, peering at the covers intently instead of looking back up to try and pretend he didn't just get an eyefull of kuroo's everything. it's not like this is even the first time, but it never fails to be anything less than embarrassing and, jeez, what is he, some blushing schoolgirl? he's fully meaning to take his time to compose himself, thank you very much, but he should have known better.
because it's kuroo so of course he's going to tease him.
kenma jumps, dropping his hands away from his face with a semi panicked looked before it drops back to his usual apathetic frown, and he lifts a hand to put it on kuroo's face and give it a push. (it's not hard, though.) ] Someone's going to see you.
Should I borrow someone's clothes? There must be something that would fit. [ Rather than fight the push, Kuroo's face disappears from the curtains, taking his laughter with him as he goes. It's not cruel laughter, at least, just faint amusement, and a deepset fondness for the poor boy that's flustered inside the safety of his bed's curtains.
Still, he gives him a bit to actually compose himself, now that he's seen for himself that, yeah, Kenma is hiding from him. It lets him look around at the room, trying to figure out if there's anyone in this sixth year dorm that might have close that would fit him.
The alternative is making himself a cloak or toga out of someone's sheets. Surely no one would miss them? (The alternative that he won't push is to just climb back into the bed, but he's going to leave that one up to Kenma.) ]
[ kuroo, not only are you embarrassing, but you're currently being as dense as a sack of bricks. kenma huffs a little bit because get what he's saying, geez before he gives up and reaches forward where kuroo's just outside. his hand hooks onto the edge of the boxers, small fingers curling around the fabric, and he gives it a tug, not saying anything, keeping his head down, gaze on the comforter, face still bright red.
as in someone's going to see you outside so get back into the curtains and into bed, stupid.... ]
[ Like you could expect any different, Kenma. Kuroo lets out an amused sound as he looks down at the hand tugging at his boxers. With a hum, he pulls back the curtain and peers into the enclosed space of Kenma's bed, smile a little sly but a lot more fond than teasing this time. With a smooth motion befitting his animagus form, he slips back into the bed, leaving the pillow behind and climbing in. Settled on his knees, he decides to close the curtain behind him before he does anything else.
And, that taken care of, he ducks forward and bumps his forehead against Kenma's temple. ] Hey. [ Carefully lifting a hand, he catches a bit of his bleached hair between his fingertips, giving a little twitch of a tug in encouragement. ]
[ kenma narrows his eyes a little as kuroo comes into the space, still feeling a little embarrassed and a teeny, tiny bit pouty. a little. he counts on kuroo to mostly be able to read his thoughts, and at least he got there in this case eventually. kenma doesn't say things like this out loud, but the bump of his forehead against his temple is nice, reassuring, and he blows out of his nose as kuroo tugs on his hair. ]
Are you going back tonight? [ don't, his voice says. even if he's just going to use him as a pillow, which he probably will. his gaze flickers away again before, quietly, he tips his head up to return the favor, companionably close to kuroo. ]
[ Sometimes, Kuroo needs a little longer to read Kenma as effectively. Not always, just sometimes, and it usually involves things like this. Kenma's social anxiety and difficulty in interacting with other people - even him, when the embarrassment allows for it - are things that he's always working on adjusting to, to make life easier for him. But in the end, he always manages to figure out what he needs, and he simply looks at him in their enclosed space, eyes relaxed and hand dropping down to frame his jaw. The responding bump makes everything about him soften, even his grin. ]
Nah. [ Kuroo turns both their heads enough to rub their noses together, thumbing at his cheek affectionately. ] Got a pretty clear schedule, y'know? Figured I'd hang out.
Mmm. Kay. [ ah, yes, here it is, the proverbial tail wiggle. if this was a game, kuroo would have just scored some points with his protag/romance route.
kenma eyes him for a second before scooting out of the way, picking up his psp and moving over. he can easily make enough room for him and kuroo both, and though he doesn't use his words, kenma gets kuroo arranged on the bed in the way that he likes before he flops between his legs, resting his back against his chest and drawing his own legs up tight so he's more or less curled up in a ball against him. he even makes room for kuroo's arms to go around him, resting his own small ones on top of his biceps and flicking on his psp again.
...yeah, this is good. (though he imagines kuroo will get bored of it, eventually.) ]
DUMB CATS
but, with a little bit of ravenclaw ingenuity, he at least has the thing working. he has to chase it across the dormitory every now and then, considering how it occasionally flutters away like it could fly, but kenma'll take it. it's better than not having it.
