[ pls don't do that kuroo, kenma would probably die. he'd just kind of melt into the ground out of sheer embarrassment, because it's not like he doesn't know, okay? he knows. he knows how kuroo feels about him an objective way. he can read it in his face, in his motions, the fact that he stays with him and lets him use him as a chair when he plays games, that he comforts him in a way that no one else really does. kuroo must, really--really, really adore kenma. he's got that much figured out.
and, in a way, kenma adores him too. he's not loud about it, but his life without kuroo in it would just be kind of wrong. there was a year in which he never saw kuroo because of his enrollment here at hogwarts, and it was like torture. kenma hated it, spent most of the year inside and hiding even more than usual, crabby and depressed because he fucking missed his best friend. it's a hard thing to have your best friend taken away from you at ten years old, and kenma's really, really not looking forward to next year, when he's stuck here alone. even with shouyou, it still won't be the same. it won't be kuroo, someone safe and relaxed, someone who kenma doesn't have to be afraid of reading him because he already knows everything there is to know.
his fingers are nice and familiar, trailing over his body, and kenma pulls away from his little mark with a slight, satisfied look on his face, quietly sitting back a bit to look at him, pulling his hands out of his hair to rest them on his chest. ] Hey. [ he mumbles, gaze flicking down and back up. ] Let's do it this time.
[ Kuroo absolutely wants to do it, but also probably won't, because he knows what Kenma's hard limits are in all things. Be it physical, emotional, sexual, whatever. He's always known where the line in the sand was with Kenma, because he just outright looked for it when they were kids. It wasn't even the way it is with Daichi or Yaku, either, where he wants to know their breaking point for how long he can annoy them. The way it is with Kenma is so that he can keep him safe and comfortable, and make sure no one else winds up stepping over that line.
And a part of him, one that he knows is illogical, feels guilt for the year apart they had when Kuroo came to Hogwarts. Kenma was alone, and he knows he cooped himself up and refused to socialize with anyone else. There wasn't anyone there to draw Kenma out of his shell, and that upsets him more than anything else could. At least when he graduates at the end of the school year, there will be others here - there'll be Hinata, and Lev and Inuoka and Tora, though he knows that Kenma is not quite as close to them, at least that Hinata kid will keep a close eye on him until Kenma is the one to graduate. He'll make sure that no one crosses that hard limit.
Kuroo blinks up at him like a lazy cat when he pulls away, bringing one hand up to touch where he knows Kenma has left a mark. But then he focuses fully on him as he sets his hands on his chest, cocking an eyebrow before - well, the second one goes to join the first. Not necessarily in surprise, because it's Kenma, and that's what he does, but something akin to it. ]
Yeah? [ He shifts to sit up properly, pudding haired kitten in his lap, and bows his head in towards him so that their foreheads bump and their noses brush. ]
Mmm. [ kenma ducks his head downwards as he answers this time, a little embarrassed as the conversation continues. his hair falls back over his face, ears turning pink as the bluntness of his own words washes back over him. doing it with kuroo is--well, there's nothing wrong with that. it's not like it's weird. it's just kuroo, his best friend, who used to get stuck in the fence by his house trying to climb over it, who he's grown up with, who he's only been apart from for one year of his entire life.
but. okay. maybe it's a little weird. kenma's long since known he loved kuroo, in a way that he can't really articulate in words because his just fail him. kenma doesn't give two shits about these kind of things, doesn't care which steps they ascend and descend together, but it's still a little strange.
hmm... well. kenma likes to pretend he doesn't really feel emotions, but, here he is. feeling them. at least it's only kuroo.
as their foreheads brush together, kenma pouts a little, flicking his gaze away and letting his shoulders hunch forward. said puddin kitten slides forward a little and he nods, fidgeting a tiny bit on his lap, under the strength of kuroo's gaze. ] Don't make a big deal out of it, Kuro.
Mmm. [ Bringing up both hands this time, Kuroo combs his long fingers through Kenma's misdyed hair, a reassuring gesture at first rather than something to get it out of his face. He lets Kenma hide behind the curtain of it for a moment longer, simply petting him, soothing away some of that embarrassment, taking care of him first. It's always been like this - Kuroo making sure Kenma's space isn't invaded, giving him reassuring touches when he's not already overwhelmed, finding quiet solitude when he is.
Maybe it wasn't love from day one, but it was unerring devotion. The love came along before too long, though, so it's never been a problem. Best friends, but also more.
And he's perfectly fine with being head over heels with him, and with the fact that he has the feelings in the first place. It's just that he feels them so damn powerfully, sometimes.
Slowly, Kuroo moves and tucks Kenma's hair behind his ear on one side, cocking his head to catch his eye briefly. His thumb smooths along the delicate line of his cheekbone, palm cupping his face carefully. ] Everything is a big deal when it's with you, y'know.
Don't be embarrassing. [ kenma's face turns bright red underneath kuroo's hand, and he huffs, reaching up to lightly smack both of his hands into kuroo's cheeks. mostly because he should be used to this behavior, but it always surprises him that kuroo manages to be this sappy. he's wondered in the past how long this has been going on; how long his best friend, ever popular with women, ever a 'heartbreaker' (in quotes, because kenma refuses to believe his best friend who once had to go to a muggle hospital at age seven because someone dared him to eat five worms so he ate six could ever be anything like a heart breaker) has been a complete and total sap. but here he is, doing it.
even after ten plus years of friendship, kuroo still has the capability to surprise kenma. and not in bad ways, either--in new ones, ones that can be a little offputting, but kenma accepts them because he loves all parts of his best friend, even if he doesn't say it so often out loud.
squeezing his cheeks for a second in reprimand, mouth drawn into a little frown, kenma sighs through his nose. jeez. how troublesome. ] If this was a boys' love, you'd start crying right now.
[ also 100% blasé, but that was kenma's deadpan sense of humor--mostly because he also knows bringing those up makes kuroo groan at him (even though kenma knows he really thinks the games are funny, just like kenma does.) ]
Aren't I always embarrassing? [ Kuroo has a reputation, and he knows it. Anyone that doesn't know him thinks that he's intimidating, mysterious, cool. He doesn't do anything to dissuade these rumors, mostly because they're only a facet of who he is. Yes, he'll encourage people to say these things, regardless of whether they're a constant truth or not. Even he can admit that they're not very constant, but he doesn't care, because the people that really matter know the truth of who he is. He has a wild sense of humor that few can keep up with or make sense of, he says a lot of nonsense and talks in circles sometimes, and he did in fact eat six worms when dared to eat five.
Kenma knows he's not even remotely cool, because they grew up together and Kuroo refused to leave his side. Kenma knows that he's secretly kind of sappy, whenever he gets the chance to be with his boyfriend. These are constant truths, above all else.
His lips pucker as Kenma squeezes his cheeks, but he's hardly bothered by the reprimand. And he radiates amusement, anyways, so there's no hiding that he's being a little shit no matter what he does.
Especially when his typically relaxed eyes widen, and he does in fact groan. But then Kuroo leans into his hands, sniffling dramatically, voice wobbly like he's about to cry. ]
A-ah, Kenma - ! [ Actually, it's wobbling because he's trying not to laugh his ass off, as he wraps his arms around Kenma so he can't escape. ]
