[ he actually glances up at the sound of i'll be back, brow furrowed and mouth already opening to form some sort of protest. but kuroo presses a quick kiss to the top of his head and ducks out of the room before kenma gets a chance to say anything, so...
... he's just left to huff into the now-empty bathroom, gaze focused intently for a long moment on the door (like staring will be enough to make kuroo pop up again). but when that fails to work, he settles back against the back of the tub, curling his knees up towards his chest and watching the water and bubbles come together to slowly fill the tub. it's still nice, a welcome reprieve from the heat, but it's not quite... right.
which is why he only really perks up again when kuroo reenters the room, eyes flicking over the bundle in his arms. the clothes are a nice (practical) thought, but... it's the sight of his handheld that really makes him light up, eyes brightening and shoulders straightening. he doesn't smile, but it's obvious to anyone fluent in kenma language that he's happy. ... but just in case the resident kenma-expert doesn't pick up on that signal, kenma shifts himself upwards slightly, catching kuroo by the wrist long enough to pull him down and press their mouths together. the kiss is short and sweet, chaste by any measure, and it only lasts a second or two before he pulls away and takes his video game back into his hands.
but: ] Thanks.
[ in the quiet language that exists between the two of them, it says a lot. ]
[ If there's anyone that knows how to take care of Kenma, it's him. He's spent years perfecting the art, and he knows that leaving him alone in the bathroom isn't necessarily something that Kenma wants. But, a necessary evil. After all, he needs to make sure that he has what he needs, and the practicality of preparation is important since he's pretty sure Kenma's mom's seen his bare ass plenty since childhood, so as unperturbed by that as she'd probably be he'd rather not accidentally flash her any more than he already has.
Also, video games make Kenma happy, which makes him happy.
Almost purring with the content noise at the back of his throat, Kuroo tips into the kiss for the short second that it happens. Because he's weak as fuck for Kenma, and pretty much everyone that knows them could call him on it. All he has to do is give him a small "Kuro" and he's on point, capable of fetching him his favorite drink or snack, getting his games and chargers, anything he needs, down to the very minute detail.
When he settles into the tub again, the look on Kuroo's face is soft instead of sly, grin gentle around the edges. ] Sure thing, kitten.
[ It's only a little bit of a tease, affection blatant in one stupid nickname. But then he finally moves to shuck off his underwear, tossing them over with the rest of the sweaty clothing. Before he climbs in, though, he stands up and puts his hands on his hips, assessing everything. The concept of body shyness is just as forgotten - they've been naked around one another more times than he can count, ranging the whole gamut of reasons - and he makes a thoughtful noise. ]
Where do you want me? [ Because Kenma's comfort is primary, always. ]
[ even without looking, the warmth of kuroo's grin still pours over him like spring sunshine -- warm enough to bask in, so gentle that he wouldn't even need a swipe of sunscreen for his nose. (... but kuroo would probably still insist on it, anyway.)
of course, his nose wrinkles up at the sound of the nickname, but it's more out of habit than any real offense. the sound of it is only really worth a swat if kuroo slips up and uses it around other people -- the last time he'd made that mistake, lev had latched onto the nickname like a dog to a bone, and it had taken a week's worth of ass-kickings from yaku and extra receiving practices from kuroo to make him drop it. but! it's just the two of them now, which means that gross nicknames are (mostly) permitted.
he's already turning his attention back to his video game, the soft beeps and boops of gameplay just audible over the sound of the running water. ... but he still scoots himself up a little in response to the question, creating enough room for kuroo to slide in behind his back. given kuroo's long legs, it's likely to be the most comfortable way of sharing a tub without any danger of accidentally getting kneed in the face, so. ]
[ You are goddamn right he would insist on it, anyway.
Honestly, Kuroo doesn't expect a verbal response. He tends to just drop himself down near Kenma and let him situate himself where he wants to be, though occasionally he'll sprawl across his lap without being prompted and just take a nap, letting himself become a table for game playing on. Also likely positions: becoming a body pillow, a lounge chair, or a tangled ball of limbs. Admittedly one of his favorite positions is when he gets to tuck around Kenma's back, face mashed between his shoulders in lieu of the second pillow he panini presses his head between usually.
It's stupid. But it's nice, and it's his, so he'll just be stupid about it.
Once Kenma scoots forward, he moves to fill the space that's been opened up for him. He can slouch comfortably in the Kozume tub, and it's probably still possible when sharing with Kenma, so he just folds himself up gracefully first so that they can get situated. At least he didn't ignore him completely in favor of his game, after the nickname came out. He was basically in the doghouse until Lev shut the fuck up - it's made him a lot more aware of it. ]
Good to go. [ His arms stretch out, and he makes grabby fingers. Come here, it's time to cuddle where we won't melt. ]
[ even the most ideal (married) couple has their cross to bear. theirs just happens to be loud, obnoxious, and obsessed with being The Ace.
but for now, kenma's more than happy to cuddle. which is why he uses his heels to nudge himself backwards, wiggling until he's nestled comfortably between kuroo's thighs with his back propped up against the other boy's chest. it's practically the perfect position to play video games; the warmth radiating off of kuroo's skin actually feels nice in comparison to the cool bathwater, and he's a lot comfier to lean up against than the side of the tub. ... especially when kenma frees up one hand from his video game long enough to reach behind him, grabbing kuroo's wrist and tugging one of his arms around his midsection in a comfortable hold.
there. snuggling. ]
... they might reschedule training camp if the heatwave keeps up.
[ It'd be kind of nice of Yaku could get him properly trained. Kuroo is fond of Lev, to a degree, but holy shit is he obnoxious.
Not that he's thinking much about Lev at the moment, as Kenma relaxes into him. The position is familiar, and once they're settled back to chest, he lifts his legs up so he can put his feet against the other side of the tub. It feels a lot better to be exposed to the air when there's the coolness of the water surrounding them, and the bubbles slowly growing to envelope everything the longer the water runs.
His arm settles without an ounce of complaint, when it's moved, because he's frequently malleable for Kenma. Kuroo winds up petting his side where his palm settles, though his other hand reaches to the faucet to slow the water flow. ]
At this rate, I'd honestly be fine with that. Pretty sure the rest of the team would be, too, 'cause last I talked to Kai he said his family was thinking about a beach trip just to get out of the mugginess.
[ he mms a lazy sound as kuroo's fingers stroke along his side, cat-gold eyes narrowing into contented slits. honestly, his attention is only half-focused on the video game in his hands; he'd picked an older title to begin with, one he knows nearly by heart, and the button presses required to guide his character through the platformer might as well be engrained in muscle memory. it's a comforting buffer against a world that his brain throws into too sharp a focus, a comforting layer of insulation between himself and everything else.
but it also means that he can divide half his focus to kuroo, too. the callouses on the fingers stroking along his skin, the low rumble of the other boy's voice against his back, the familiar cadence of his words as he speaks. it's nice, an intimacy that isn't overbearing. ]
... we could go, too. [ to the beach. it'll probably be crowded, at this time of year, but kuroo's normally all the buffer he needs. there's no breeze here in tokyo, and a beach umbrella should still give him enough shade to see the screen of his handheld. ] It might be nice.
[ and he presses on of his feet up against the opposite sides of the tub, toes wiggling absently just above the bubbles. ]
[ Taking his other hand, Kuroo reaches to the edge of the tub to pick up the bath cup, absently filling it up with water to drop onto his own head. His hair is already a little deflated from the sheer humidity of the heatwave, so it doesn't really have much more volume to lose in the process. But man does it feel good, and he refills the cup. ]
Head forward. [ The instruction is simple, and he figures Kenma will listen to him, since he has had such great ideas so far already. But after mulling over the whole beach thing, he finally answers. ] We could probably find a cove to hang out in, where it won't be as crowded. Set up an umbrella, bring a net and a beach volleyball. Cooler. Nekoma beach party, loose emphasis on party.
[ He tilts his feet in towards Kenma's a little, his own toes stretching out like a cat's before he relaxes them again and carefully pours water down the back of Kenma's head and neck. Everything's pretty comfortable, now that it's not overheated. The water is a nice, cool temperature that doesn't chill but doesn't welcome the heat outside it, the bubbles are helping slough off some of the sticky sweat, Kenma's video game is familiar white noise.
If it weren't for the fact they're talking to each other, Kuroo'd be fine with a nap like this. ]
