[ It, honestly, doesn't take long for Keiji to learn that Bokuto - and Kuroo - has been arrested. He's fairly certain that his parents both have eyes and ears at the police station, in the event that any information about Bokuto Koutarou winds up coming through. The moment that he comes downstairs for breakfast, the servants of the house look almost skittish as they anxiously give him greetings, never looking him in the eye. But his parents, they look pleased, sitting at the head of the table.

He's never yelled at his parents before in his life, but the moment they had told him - doesn't this just prove that we were right, Keiji? he's a delinquent, a tramp, a nobody. you shouldn't be spending your time with him, not when you have your future to look forward to - he had felt the anger rising like a wave in him. The way it had crashed had been explosive, and the repercussions had been swift.

But Akaashi had still left the estate, despite the disapproval from his parents, their shouts echoing behind him, the sting of his cheek. He had gone to the bank and withdrawn the money from his own savings, and he had gone to the station.

And here he is, now. Though his priority is Bokuto, he manages to barter with the man at the desk so that he can get both him and Kuroo out without being extorted out of more money. His name carries weight, even if his adamant refusal to leave without both of them out of the drunk tank confuses many of the people. He's rewarded more than once by family friends casting suspicious looks his way, but he ignores them, ignores their eyes landing on his still smarting, red cheek from the resounding slap that was the parting gift from his mother. If he can refuse his parents, then he can refuse these people, too.

Especially when it comes to Bokuto. He's certain that his parents would find a way to send them away on trump charges, just to keep Akaashi away from them, from him. The thought terrifies him, because not only would he never see him again, he knows that they would separate Bokuto from Kuroo, and that's just promising a decline into depression.

He can't let that happen, so he stands there, overseeing the officer as he unlocks the drunk tank. (Kuroo hums, almost absently, to Bokuto - "Looks like your beau came to save us~" - from inside, and Akaashi pretends not to hear it.) Kuroo emerges first, smiling lazily at the officer, but then he immediately steps aside for his cellmate.

Akaashi twists his fingers together, anxious but relieved.

[ this is not the first time bokuto koutarou was arrested, and it probably won't be the last. he's a goddamn regular in the overnight cell, mostly because when he gets charged its for things like 'public indecency' or 'property destruction' or 'public intoxication' (or some combination of all three). he's friends with all the cops, who look at him as either a fucking nuisance or a lovable scamp depending on who picks him up, but today's cop was more along the 'fucking nuisance' side of things. and so, he and kuroo were here, probably still a little tipsy, bokuto still with spraypaint on his finger tips and sitting with his head against kuroo's shoulder. it's not like he cares that much about being charged or anything like that.

it's akaashi. akaashi is all he can think about sitting here.

bokuto rarely thinks about the consequences to his actions. he is loud, over the top, exuberant and moody as all hell in most things--the human form of a wrecking ball. but since he met akaashi (in passing, on the street, struck by how absolutely mind blowingly knee quakingly earth shatteringly beautiful he was) bokuto's been trying. that's the best he can do most days, is try. with his moods, with his temper, with his everything--all he can do is try for akaashi. this? this wasn't trying. this was fucking up, and it was that that had bokuto uncharacteristically quiet and slumped against kuroo, starting off on a bad spiral down towards one of his more depressed mood swings.

but then, kuroo humming in his ear is what gets his attention, and it's like everyone else in the room falls away. there's akaashi--he came for him anyway, he's there, he doesn't hate him, and his face--

bokuto bounds across the cell boundary before the cop can even get out his "don't do that again" lecture and hurries to akaashi. but the hug that would typically be huge and probably lift akaashi straight off his feet isn't that--it's bokuto dropping onto him, wrapping his arms around his shoulders and squeezing tight, breathing out-- ]
Akaashi.

[personal profile] tolerator 2015-07-25 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Though Akaashi had no idea what to do with Bokuto when they first met, it didn't take nearly as long as he expected for him to adapt. To understand how to manage his moods. To just welcome him into his life without question, no matter what anyone else thought of it. Bokuto is a bad influence. Bokuto will drag him down.

Bokuto makes him actually feel alive. The monotony of his life was completely flipped on its head the moment that he'd decided to approach him, and his world feels like it's finally full of color. There's no way that he would change anything about the way things are, now, save for removing the factor that is his parents' meddling. Though they aren't... officially anything more than close friends, Akaashi has had serious thoughts about eloping recently. But that would mean that Bokuto would have to reciprocate those feelings, and while he's fantastic at reading his moods, he's affectionate with everyone that he considers a friend.

He doesn't know if the affection he shows Kuroo - who has gone off to get their things - is different from the affection that he's given.

As Bokuto practically drops on him, he braces for his weight easily, wrapping his arms around his barrel chest and digging his fingers into the back of his shirt. It's a far more desperate hug than normal, from both ends, and a part of Akaashi thinks this gives him a decent answer about their feelings.
] I'm sorry I didn't come sooner. If I had known last night, I would have come then.

but he's so beautiful

[personal profile] deflates 2015-07-25 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ the story here is that affection isn't always that different for bokuto. sure, he loves kuroo, loves him with every inch of his heart and has definitely made out with him a couple of times, but that feels like something entirely different than akaashi keiji. akaashi is a kotatsu on a miserably cold day, the kind of warmth that fills him up from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head. and yeah, bokuto's really really (really) not good with his feelings--at all. he barely notices he has them most of the time, but even he knows that something about akaashi is just Different.

losing him in any way would hurt so much; losing him because of his own fuck up would be even worse.

it would seriously take a crowbar to pull bokuto away from akaashi. literally, metaphorically, what have you. he will fight tooth and nail to keep him, keep seeing him, keep making him smile that warm, perfect ethereal smile he gets every now and then that makes bokuto want to start--doing backflips or something, it's that powerful. when he does let go, after a solid few seconds, a muttered "no, it's okay, shut up", bokuto pauses.

and that's when he sees his face. ]
Akaashi--[ the look on bokuto's face goes from nothing to thunder in about three seconds. ] Who--what--I'll kick their asses, what, are you okay?!

[ not something to be yelling in a police station bokuto ]
tolerator: © ғᴏʟᴋʟᴏʀᴇ (Default)

and bokuto is... goofy and handsome in spades

[personal profile] tolerator 2015-07-25 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ Maybe, just maybe, Akaashi should have thought about covering up his face before he came to the police station. He's learned how to cover the marks he gets from his mother slapping him by now, but he just... he didn't think about it. He couldn't think of anything except Bokuto, going to him, seeing him, getting him out before his parents bribed someone into sending him away. Now that he's got him in his life, he can't picture it without him.

Well, he can. But he'd rather not think about it, or arranged marriages, pristine parties that don't matter except for social gain and the flaunting of wealth.

He looks down and aside, away from Bokuto, heaving a sigh. But without looking, he brings his hand up, gently placing his fingertips against Bokuto's lips to quiet him. It's definitely not something they want the police to be hearing, especially when they're split in two on whether they like their frequent guest or not.
]

Don't worry about it, Bokuto-san. It's fine. [ It was worth it, is what it sounds like he's saying. And as he looks back up at him - Bokuto is not that much taller than him, a handful of centimeters at best, but he's always just so much bigger when he's riled up - there's still a spark, like a fight just waiting to happen, in all that quiet stoicism. ]

[ the guy that's been hanging out with hinata every day in the market place, is, in fact, not who he said he was.

well, to be fair to him, he didn't say who he was, and hinta was too dumb to figure it out. they'd gotten into a little bit of an argument in the marketplace the first day, one that involved them throwing fruit at each other until hinata had grabbed him about four seconds before a guard showed up and cut off his whole head for stealing, but. hinata had grown to like the guy. enough that he showed him--showed kageyama the ropes. how to steal without being noticed, where to sleep where the guards couldn't catch you, how to stay warm at night when the unforgiving sun sank low in the sky and brought out the cool of the night. this life wasn't great, but it was hinata's, his and his baby sister's, and the two of them were just--street rats.

it had always been him and natsu, for as long as hinata could remember. and he thought, just this once, maybe they could include another person--a friend. hinata hasn't had a real one in a long time. the ladies in the marketplace love him, the animals are pretty friendly towards him, but a real friend? who wants to befriend a street rat? (even if he doesn't have fleas.)

but then, things had gone to chaos, and the two of them had been caught. hinata got natsu away in time, but kageyama stood and said, i'm the prince, let them go. the resulting distraction had left hinata dumbfounded enough that the guards did, and as he stood there waiting for natsu come back, kageyama disappearing with the guards hand on his back, he tried to sort through everything he was feeling. shock. some sadness? a lot of sadness. kageyama was his only friend, and now he was--a prince. just like the rest of them.

but god, he misses him so bad. and that's why hinata finds himself precariously seated on a tree outside of the palace, just...watching. just a couple minutes. he doesn't even know what he's going to say (he told natsu he was going to give him a "piece of his mind, just you wait!!" but natsu just looked sad and asked him to bring tobio back home) but.

but he's going try, maybe. once he has a plan. that plan at the moment is just sitting in the tree and watching at the balcony, near eye level to him. please don't startle him out of the tree, kageyama. ]

[personal profile] thekinged 2015-07-25 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ Kageyama had only meant for it to happen once. He just wanted to go out, without anyone recognizing him, and see what it was like beyond the palace walls. So he takes off his fine garments and steals some simple clothes from the servants quarters, and heads out before anyone can notice he's missing.

Not that they would notice. His mother is always busy, his father is frequently away from the capital to take care of matters elsewhere. The guards hardly notice him when he's there, and the servants all try to avoid him when they can. He's too sullen, they say. Too stoic, too intimidating, too mad. Whatever happened to the little Tobio-sama that used to run around under their feet, asking them to play with him?

It makes him bitter, and so he winds up spending all of his time with two siblings that everyone calls street rats. What had been the most irritating person he'd ever met quickly became Kageyama's first and only friend, through some form of happenstance. Hinata taught him everything, and Kageyama repaid him by using his keen eyes and the knowledge he garnered from lessons in the palace to help him and his sister. Trade times, patrol shifts, which guards were the easiest to distract, or were prone to falling asleep.

His time with Shouyou and Natsu? It's the most fun he's ever had in his life.

Of course it has to come to an end, though. All good things in his life do.

But Kageyama would rather go back to his horrible, lonely life than let Hinata and his sister get into trouble. After all, they don't have anyone else to look out for them, so the job falls to him. There are people in the marketplace that know them, of course, but it's not the same. It's not even a little bit the same - it's just the two of them, and they had shared with him when no one else in his life had before. Those people had just given him everything, thinking that it was what he wanted, when it wasn't. What he wanted was what he got from spending time with Hinata, and Natsu, and living with them in that short time that he did.

It wasn't luxurious, but it was his. It was theirs, and he misses them so much that it feels like an ache in his chest.

So, because he doesn't know how to manage these emotions, he locks himself in his room, brooding and pacing and agitated. Pining. Eventually, he winds up skulking out to the balcony, slamming the doors shut behind him in the event that a servant or guard or - unlikely as anything - one of his parents decides to come and talk to him.

Sorry if that was a little loud, Hinata.

[ hinata needs a plan. he needs some words to yell at kageyama, at least, a starter. i can't believe you lied to me, you suck seems like a good place to start. what did you think i was gonna say? maybe. well. that's the thing. hinata was pretty damn dumbfounded when he said he was a prince, and sure, he spent a lot of time talking about how bad he wished he could have an easy life like that--

but, hinata wouldn't have ever down talked kageyama for it. sure, would have joked him, "you could've been buying us food the whole time, bakageyama!" but it's still--god. kageyama basically became his best (only) friend. the only person in the whole wide world he trusted and cared for as much as natsu, and hinata shouyou's trust and care and love is the kind of thing that's usually five sizes too big for his chest.

so all these feelings have added up to this weird squirming thing of emotions, an ache of hurt in his chest that he can't describe in words outside of 'guwahh' and 'uohhh', and thats why he's here. he hasn't really thought through what he wants to do or say at all, except maybe just.

come back home, tobio.

however, before he can really ruminate on those very embarrassing thoughts, the balcony door gets slammed. hinata jumps about three feet and squawks a-- ]

[ Well, if he couldn't spot the bright orange in the tree - seriously? - Kageyama sure as hell would recognize that outburst.

Jumping, he spins around and braces his hands on the edge of the balcony, leaning forward to scan for the source of the sound. And, there, in the goddamn tree right outside his room, is Hinata Shouyou in all of his stupid, energetic glory. His reaction is immediate and just as confusing as the rest of his emotions, a strange amalgamation of excitement, guilt, dread, and anger, the latter of which largely caused by the combination of the former three.

But also, he's terrified of what could happen to Hinata if the guards caught him. There was only so much he could do, before. Now, they're not in the marketplace anymore.
]

Hinata! [ Voice a low hiss, he hops up and over the edge of the balcony, moving to land on one of the sturdier branches of the tree. This was, after all, how he managed to sneak out the first time. Going to make sure that Hinata doesn't fall out of the thing and crack his skull open is easy enough, though he fumbles a little as he tries to keep his balance in his... surprise, excitement, both. ] What're you doing here? What if you got caught!?

[ That, above all else, is his concern. Does Natsu know you're here? Where is she? Is she safe? Is she okay? ]

[ bokuto's concern is loud, just like the rest of him, and he grabs onto akaashi's cheeks to inspect his face a little closer, but despite what you'd expect, his hold is gentle. it's because of how gentle he wants to be with akaashi, how fragile and perfect and beautiful he is. this kind of touch is new between them, a level of intimacy that they've never really achieved, and bokuto's eyes are a golden storm as he tracks his thumb over the spot, eyebrows knitted together, mouth a little open as the anger clouds over his face. ]

I swear, I'll-- [ but. akaashi puts his fingers over his mouth and he pauses, snapping his jaw shut and looks frustrated, lips drawn into a line as it's not just the motion that quiets him, but the fire in akaashi's voice. the passion and warmth and all of these things that bokuto riles in him. he wonders how everyone in the world is not fucking head over heels for akaashi keiji, because it's impossible not to be, when you get to see this side of him. get to know what he's about, what makes him tick. what he wants versus what his parents want.

(but, bokuto doesn't want to share those feelings with anyone. his own are loud and obnoxious and there, but the idea of saying them makes him want to vomit, so he doesn't; he just hopes the rest of the world won't wise up fast enough to how perfect akaashi is. if they do, well, bokuto can make a pretty decent attack dog--unless akaashi would be happy that way. though he likes not to think about that. talk about something that makes him want to vomit.)

[ Rather than flinch away, Akaashi simply lets Bokuto take hold of his face. He looks up at him calmly, but there's that fire there just as much as there's a fondness for the man standing in front of him. The touch, honestly, sends goosebumps across his skin, and he tilts into it a little bit without really thinking about it. Bokuto's touch is not a rare experience, but this - this is different, and he wants to savor it.

So he does, as he calms him with his own gentle touch and easy words. Because he doesn't want Bokuto to be questioned again, to be put back in the drunk tank. He wants his passion and his energy and all that loud, exuberant life in him free. The idea of him being locked away somewhere, in worse ways than Keiji had been locked away before he met Bokuto, makes him feel ill. Bokuto Koutaro is the one who brought his own passion out, freed it.
]

Kuroo-san has probably left with your things by now. [ As Bokuto pulls away, he almost tries to follow after his hand. But he holds himself still, contenting himself with the lingering warmth against his cheek that doesn't come from the sting of his mother's slap.

Fidgeting with his fingers again, threading them together and twisting them in nervous, idle habit, he slowly tilts his head to look aside. Hopefully Bokuto just thinks he's looking off to the entrance.

What's wrong with you, don't slam your stupid door like that! [ comes his semi-panicked reply before he turns back around to face kageyama, who is now...really close. hinata flusters, his cheeks going bright red as he lifts both of his hands, pointing back at him. ]

but, instead of admiring akaashi again, he catches his question, tilting his head. with the mark on his cheek, bokuto's not dumb enough to not know what must have gone down before he came here, and for a brief moment, he just softens, his mouth falling into a little frown and eyes melting, just a touch. ]

[ A little twist of amusement curls the corners of Akaashi's mouth into the smallest of smiles as he watches Bokuto - it's hard not to crack them, every now and then. Most of the time he's a little exasperated with him and Kuroo both, but he still can't help it. Especially when their relationship rears its head. (Besides, he's pretty sure Kuroo left the way he did on purpose. He's been trying to hook them up from day one, and he's not even remotely oblivious to that fact.)

The look that Bokuto gives him, though, his eyes turn away again as if he's regarding the officers and station around them. Keeping an eye on things, as it were, when in reality he just can't stand to see that look on Bokuto's face. It's proof that he's far more perceptive than people give him credit for, but it just makes him think about how Bokuto knows what's happening, how his relationship with his parents is falling apart.

At least they move on pretty quickly, and Akaashi hooks his arm around Bokuto in return, hand between his shoulders.

[ whoa, holy shit, kageyama is using his words. as in--he's not yelling at him or scoffing or anything. he's being honest, and that alone startles hinata enough that he lets him finish, though his eyebrows are still furrowed as if he's ready to go off on a tirade of his own in about three seconds. even after he yelled at him, hinata thought he'd still be furious, but he's feeling some steam start to evaporate off of him, and he stares at kageyama as he talks, watches the way he stares at the ground and scoffs instead of looking him (proudly, always so proudly) in the eyes.

in the end, the real reason why hinata's here is pretty obvious. he didn't come just to give kageyama a piece of his mind, because he's done that now, and he's not leaving. he's left here standing with his fists still loosely clenched, and "i didn't want to leave" hits him so hard in the chest it feels like he's been punched.

I have responsibilities! he knows, but he doesn't care about them. He doesn't care about the years of fine upbringing and blue-blood breeding, about the fact that he's the heir to the throne.

Who would want to be king, when you sit on a throne alone?

Kageyama usually looks people head-on, because that's how he's always done it. That's what he was taught, and he's never realized just how much he does it or how awkward it could be until he left the palace. But now he keeps his eyes down, embarrassed and angry with himself for it and agonizing over the fact that all he wants to do is exactly what Hinata says.

Bringing his hands up, he digs the heels of his palms into his eyes and heaves out a heavy breath. It shakes at the end, because he's just so tired of being the prince, and he misses living with Shouyou and Natsu so much that he could cry, he thinks. It was something his parents would look down on, but it was theirs and he wasn't alone, he was happy. Hinata makes him so happy, and that's terrifying in a way, because he realized that he just -

The swell of emotions that they both make him feel is overwhelming, a bright burst of sunlight just like them, but he's pretty sure he's in love with Hinata.
]

I want to come home. [ He drops his hands, and Tobio breathes in - pretends he doesn't end it with a sniff - before lifting his head to actually look at him again. ]

[ watching kageyama reach up to rub at his eyes is surreal, but it's the words that come after that feel like they make hinata's heart just break in his chest, and a part of him wonders when it got like this. when he stopped hating him--because he really did, at first, really hated him a lot--and started looking to his left always expecting kageyama to be there next to him, making a sour face or sucking on a milk box they pilfered from the milkman when he walked by. not having him there feels like there's a hole ripped in him, or something, and hinata ends up tearing up too, feeling like a stupid child as he has to inhale deeply to keep from crying. he needs to be strong, he was here to be mad, and he just.

deflates. completely. he can't be mad anymore.

instead, he ends up stepping forward, unafraid of falling off the branch, and reaches forward to grab kageyama's hands when he drops them. it's a little embarrassing, and if he wasn't overcome with that feeling of heartbreak, a lion threatening to break out of the ribcage in his chest, he'd be turning red. instead, the passion and the emotion just break all at once, and he squeezes them, giving his arms a shake. ]

Then come home. [ he's definitive, stubborn. hinata is kind of dumb, but he's not an idiot. he knows kageyama probably has duties to attend to, princely bullshit or something like that. here he has a bed to sleep on that's not made of rags and all the money and food he could ever want, but if some delusional part of him wants to stay with natsu and him, keeping the warm when the night gets cold and looking up at the stars through the holes in the ceiling, then god, god, hinata will convince him to come somehow. he never backs down from a challenge, and this is one of those challenges.

he ends up swallowing back a lump in his throat, giving his hands another shake. ]
You idiot. Just come back! You ran away once, do it again!

[ At first, all he can do is bite his lip to try and quell the burn at the back of his throat, the threat of actual tears instead of just getting teary-eyed. Kageyama hates crying, gets angry with himself every time he feels it well up in him, but right now all he can focus on is Hinata's words, even if he calls him an idiot. All he can really take in is the grasp on his hands, and he squeezes just as tightly.

His hands weren't made for the life of an aristocrat - he's calloused from practicing his swordsmanship and climbing trees and buildings, and it's all been built up even more to reflect the ones that Hinata has, from his life on the streets and through the marketplace stalls, from climbing just as high as the prince has.

They fought a lot, at first, but god if they didn't just click before long, where they were communicating in an unspoken language, aware at every point where their newfound other half was. Natsu helped a great deal in all of this - Tobio loves her with every fiber of his being, wants to comb out her fluffy hair when she's having a hard time sleeping and he's still awake with her brother's face mashed into his shoulder. He wants to carry her on his shoulders again, swing her back and forth by the hands between him and Hinata. He wants to run through the market holding Shouyou's hand, bickering with him while laughing in the same breath.

All he wants is that starry sky, accompanied by hushed whispers and heads bowed together. Not even the softest bed in the empire could make up for cold nights spent nesting beneath that sky.

So, with a deep breath, he starts taking steps back towards the balcony, planning on bringing Hinata with him as he goes, mind working.
] I ran away without taking anything with me the first time. C'mon.

[ All the wealth in the world at his disposal, and Kageyama thinks maybe he can use it for their benefit this time. ]
