first we respect the timeline
Finding the doors had been confusing, because he's fairly certain that he's never heard anyone talk about them. When he first sees them, he traces long fingers over the patterns - a turkey, a heart, an egg, a clover, until he comes to what looks to be a pumpkin. He looks curiously at it, considering it, but he hears his grandmother calling for him so he leaves it be for the day.
He never asked her about them, but that's fine. Satoru returns to them later on, sniffing around the trees curiously, only hesitating a moment when it seems that pumpkin door is ajar. But rather than linger for long, he decides to nose it open further and climb through it, big paws hefting him up easily until he tumbles through empty space -
- and winds up landing in a heap on autumn leaves in a crisp forest empty of snow. Grey eyes confused and wide, he rolls his large body so that he can get off his shoulders and up to his haunches, then his feet. He huffs and sniffs at leaves, blowing them up into the air, and then... well, he's here, isn't he? Maybe he can find somewhere to take a nap, since this place seems so far away from the elves and the sprites and the rest of Christmas Town, always so busy with their preparations even if there could be 364 days until Christmas.
It doesn't occur to him to shift his forms, at least not right away. Instead, he ambles along, horned head swaying back and forth as he investigates. ]
well since it is that time of year
it's not like his big brother forbids it or anything, but in general, little witches have a bedtime, because little witches have a lot of preparations to be making with halloween fast approaching. for it isn't 365 days to halloween but 30, and in order to make this one as scary and successful as it has every year, certain little witches need to be home tucked into their beds by eleven. haruichi thinks a part of it is because his big brother is always busy with the vampire that's been hanging around the house, and it is that business that's let him slip out a little later than intended today. he'd spent most of his afternoon with his best friend, a werewolf named eijun, and realized just a little too late he forgot to catch the fresh nightcrawlers from the woods around the trees. it seemed better to get home late but at least with the nightcrawlers his big brother needed for the potion he was working on than empty handed, and so haruichi kominato is the only soul in the forest at the moment.
or so he thinks.
the ghosts above his head would agree, but he mostly doesn't hear them, focusing on catching nightcrawlers. it's a process that's gotten his black pants really dirty but his jar's about half full, and he jumps to catch one and yank it up out of the ground with striped-gloved-fingers when he looks up and spots...
oh, is that an abominable snowman? haruichi's head tilts to the side, his bangs shifting across his face with the movement. there was a family of yetis around halloween town for a while, but he thought they'd all moved back up into the mountains. ]
Um, excuse me--hello! [ he calls, first too quietly and then a little louder, clearing his throat and cupping his hand around his mouth. there's no sign of fright. why would there be? ] Are you lost?
[glee]
And then he blinks, quietly surprised by the fact that he's spoken to so casually. Only his family has ever really done that, but that's a given. His grandfather, especially, sees no reason to be delicate whether it's out of fear or if it's a more firm kind of love. The rest of town, they're afraid of him.
This strangely dressed boy, though. He shows no signs of it, just calls to him and stand there. Shifting his weight, Furuya turns more towards him, looking around. He can speak when he's like this, but there's a sort of shyness to his silence as he tilts his head before giving a nod. Even if he were his more person-shaped self, it'd be his reaction. ]

Do you need to get back to the mountains? It's awfully late, the journey's kind of long...
[ there's no terror or fright as he approaches a little closer, looking him over curiously. he's never seen an abominable snowman before... wait until his brother hears! this is so cool. ] How did you get all the way out here...?

He makes a noncommittal noise at the question, though, not really too concerned with getting back. His grandfather will probably either scold him or just nod when he gets back and explains where he went, and he's not sure which it'll be.
His second question gets his attention, though, and Furuya looks back at him before tentatively saying: ] The doors.

[ haruichi blinks, thrown for a loop. he was thinking "i walked" or "fell into a witch's trap", both of which would be normal answers, but doors? he's left staring at him for a moment, but haruichi tips his head and looks beyond him and that's when he remembers the doors. ] The do--wait, you're not from the mountains at all, are you?
[ his mouth falls open in a little o shape as he realizes it--he's from one of the other worlds his mother and father have told him about. the ones that control all the other holidays, thanksgiving and valentines and christmas and things he's only ever heard stories of outside of halloween town. immediately, the curiosity gets to him and he shuts his mouth--but his excitement is sincere. ] That's amazing...and you wandered here? I didn't even know people could go through those...
[ a pause. ] Ah, but you aren't a person! Um, I'm sorry, I hope I didn't offend you. I'm--Haruichi, Kominato Haruichi. What's your name...?

[ His reaction isn't really what he expects, but then again there's nothing about this that he can say he really expects. He figured the door would lead somewhere, but this wasn't quite what he thought would happen. Someone worried about offending him, and introducing himself, and talking to him like there's nothing strange about his presence here. It makes him shift a little where he's seated. ] Through the door shaped like a tree...
[ After a beat: ] Furuya Satoru. You... you didn't.

of course, with manners out of the way he does peer curiously around furuya to look for the doors. he knows where they are, logically, but he's never even dared to open one, let alone to see someone come through it. furuya's amazing--and he must be so tired, from such a journey.
which door's shaped like a tree... he'll have to ask about that. more questions can come later: haruichi gives him a warm smile, fretting just a little. ] You must be tired. C'mon, I'll take you back to my brother, and we can get you a warm meal and some sleep before you head back on your journey. Would that be alright with you?

Carefully, he hefts himself up, debating for a moment before he actually does catch the fretting offering. His head lifts, and he blinks at him again in quiet surprise. ]
That's... I'd like that. [ He shyly bobs his head, looking down at the ground before he gives a pull on his Christmas magic so that he can go from bearish to human, even if his big bear paws and neck fluff remain. He sort of has to fix his shirt collar a little so that the fluff can spill over it instead of get stuck, though that's easy enough with claws. ]
