[ hinata had originally come over to kageyama's to see if he'd toss to him even out in the snow. it's not totally unheard of for either of them to practice outside when they get the chance, though usually the weather is nicer, but by the time hinata had biked the thirty minutes from his house to kageyama's, snow had started to fall in thick, fluffy patches and hinata decided that tossing could wait.

[ Room effectively a fortress, with everything that's been crammed in there to keep them warm - Kageyama even used a few sheets on the window to help with the chill leaking in through cracks and glass - it's sort of... peaceful. His room is fairly blank, save for a few odds and ends. He keeps it clean of clutter, and here it is a veritable mess and he's perfectly content. Suddenly, instead of the occasional splash of color brought in from gifts given to him mostly by Hinata, it's a collage of it with every kind of fabric possible.

he's taken his time getting to know kageyama, all of his weird idiosyncrasies. hinata knows how to make him mad (he's really good at that) and make him competitive (also really good at that.) he knows how to make kageyama laugh, sometimes, even if that just means leaping on him out of nowhere and tickling him until he stops looking like someone pissed in his cheerios. hinata has learned that the grumpy, uptight king is actually just another person, a weird, dumb, awesome person, and hinata likes that. a lot.
(he's still his rival, though. and he's still going to get better than him at volleyball and beat him at it. it's happening.)
but, if there's one thing about kageyama, he's kind of--unpredictable sometimes. hinata thinks he has him all sketched, and then he'll just go and do things, like he just follows his basal instincts. one of those things is kissing hinata. it often happens in front of other people, which is super, super embarrassing (seriously, kageyama has no read of atmosphere at all and it gets shouyou stupidly embarrassed and flustered) but. but here in private, ti's not too bad.
his laughter gets cut off with a "mmft" noise, because he was planning on saying something about kageyama being a jerky mcjerkerson, but it dies with the kiss. his hands are pinned, so he still can't quite get up, so, hinata just lets his eyes flutter shut and kisses him back, halfhearted protest dying in his throat.

It's a gambit, trusting Hinata enough to let him have his hands back, but he's not really thinking too much about the inevitable revenge that will come. But that's just it. He likes that they compete like that, that they seek revenge against but also for one another. No one can say anything negative about Hinata without Kageyama getting defensive or angry, and Shouyou has done the same for him before. This is my idiot, their actions say. Only I can say shit about him. But it's good.
Where Hinata had once been a mindless idiot that he normally wouldn't have dared spent an ounce of time with, now they're rivals as much as they are friends. He's loud, simple, overly happy, has too much energy, but Kageyama knows better than that. He's determined, a fighter, his cheer can be fun just as much as it's frustrating. They poke fun at one another, find buttons to press, but at the end of the day, it's all fine.
After their fight, during their training with the Tokyo schools, nothing has really ever gotten away. Together, they're invincible. ]

besides, even though it feels like they're both stumbling and clumsy about it, even if hinata's ears always turn red, it feels like they've gotten the hang of this whole kissing thing. hinata can kiss kageyema without question; it's just a habit, now, a little fact of life that he's gotten good at, another thing to learn (and another thing to be better than tobio at.) sure, tobio's obnoxious and annoying and grumpy and grabs hinata's head too hard a lot, but hinata's learned how to dodge his literal and metaphorical swings at this point.
he huffs a sigh that's a little bit indignant, and okay, maybe his grip is a liiittle too much, but hinata's competitive at his best and at his worst, and having someone to make out with instead of spiking their tosses is just as competition worthy as the sport. and when it's someone he's so disgustingly synched to that people question if they secretly got married? well, that's a bonus. ]

A soft grunt leaves him as deft fingers dig into his hair, a little harder than he initially expected. But he doesn't protest, and he doesn't try to pull away. Instead, he just kisses him back, chasing the huffy sigh and moving his hands. One settles at his waist, his fingers digging in a little against his side, not aiming to tickle, but mostly just to keep him still. The other combs into his hair to return the gesture, gentle before he gets a fistful of hair to hold onto. Shouyou is just as competitive as him, and it's good for them.
But they're one cohesive unit, regardless, in sync and constantly adapting to one another in everything. They grate on one another, and find one another irritating fairly frequently, or embarrassing, and they fight, but there's this. There's them learning what the other likes, and how to kiss without it being too awkward. There's Hinata passing him his milk when he eats cereal, and Kageyama making sure he always has a jacket with him because Hinata always forgets, or expects the weather to be warmer than it actually is.
And he wouldn't have it any other way, because this person has proven that they will always be there. So Kageyama intends to return the favor. ]

He does get embarrassed after the fact, sometimes, but it really depends on what he's done or who's around. Tsukishima just winds up pissing him off, most of the time, so instead of getting properly embarrassed like a normal human being he just ignores that he exists and does as he pleases. After all, it makes Tsukishima feel awkward enough sometimes, and he gets to kiss Hinata. It's a win/win situation, in his mind.
