[ 'even when it doesn't fit into the atmosphere of the situation', he says, like kageyama ever actually reads the atmosphere of said situation at all. he's very, um, singleminded. not that hinata isn't either--god knows hinata is probably only second to kageyama in his singlemindedness, but he has the good sense in his head to get really embarrassed at things, such as kageyama's sudden kisses in front of the team. it usually flusters him, makes him flail around and yell or some mix of the two, and though more often than not, he shoves him away, he does kind of appreciate it. hinata likes kissing kageyama, he just likes doing it in places that aren't in front of their entire team.
finally, though, he lets go of his hands, freeing hinata where he's been pinned down. the kiss is mostly distracting enough that he doesn't seek immediate retribution, his small hands instead coming up to fist gently in kageyama's hair, holding him there in the kiss for a minute. well, fine if he's going to be a jerk about it, hinata's gonna keep him here.
(till he's ready for said revenge, anyway.)
besides, even though it feels like they're both stumbling and clumsy about it, even if hinata's ears always turn red, it feels like they've gotten the hang of this whole kissing thing. hinata can kiss kageyema without question; it's just a habit, now, a little fact of life that he's gotten good at, another thing to learn (and another thing to be better than tobio at.) sure, tobio's obnoxious and annoying and grumpy and grabs hinata's head too hard a lot, but hinata's learned how to dodge his literal and metaphorical swings at this point.
he huffs a sigh that's a little bit indignant, and okay, maybe his grip is a liiittle too much, but hinata's competitive at his best and at his worst, and having someone to make out with instead of spiking their tosses is just as competition worthy as the sport. and when it's someone he's so disgustingly synched to that people question if they secretly got married? well, that's a bonus. ]
[ Listen, neither of them can talk. Hinata is shit at reading moods, too, though his tend to run more along the line of 'Kageyama is trying really hard to be serious and romantic.' Usually this is due to him taking some of Suga's advice, but it doesn't... really work, most of the time. Kageyama figures that it balances things out, in a way, since he really is awful at acting appropriately according to the mood. After all, he spent a lot of time repressing his feelings about Hinata, because he had no idea what to do with them. Now he's just given up and goes with his instincts.
Which leads to him kissing Hinata a lot in front of others. Whatever. He's working on it, kind of. Sometimes. (Volleyball is priority.)
A soft grunt leaves him as deft fingers dig into his hair, a little harder than he initially expected. But he doesn't protest, and he doesn't try to pull away. Instead, he just kisses him back, chasing the huffy sigh and moving his hands. One settles at his waist, his fingers digging in a little against his side, not aiming to tickle, but mostly just to keep him still. The other combs into his hair to return the gesture, gentle before he gets a fistful of hair to hold onto. Shouyou is just as competitive as him, and it's good for them.
But they're one cohesive unit, regardless, in sync and constantly adapting to one another in everything. They grate on one another, and find one another irritating fairly frequently, or embarrassing, and they fight, but there's this. There's them learning what the other likes, and how to kiss without it being too awkward. There's Hinata passing him his milk when he eats cereal, and Kageyama making sure he always has a jacket with him because Hinata always forgets, or expects the weather to be warmer than it actually is.
And he wouldn't have it any other way, because this person has proven that they will always be there. So Kageyama intends to return the favor. ]
[ at least hinata's normal okay. also, he has some sense of public decency, unlike some people. actually, he's just a big baby about public displays of affection and gets really embarrassed--it's easy for hinata to get totally overloaded and flustered, particularly when kageyama seems to just steal kisses from him when they're standing around. (or when other people are around, which is four hundred times more embarrassing, particularly if that person is tsukishima. hinata sometimes thinks kageyama does it on purpose.)
here it's nice, though. hinata still gets embarrassed, don't get him wrong. even just in private like that, kageyama's gestures, his hands on him--sometimes even just the way he looks at him--all of these things make him turn red at the drop of a hat. at this very moment, his cheeks have pinkened a little under the hand that briefly brushes over them, and hinata can't help but feel a little bit fidgety as he kisses him back. it's not just because he's always fidgety (because he is) but this whole thing makes him feel a lot of weird feelings he never thought he'd actually feel.
the competition helps with that, though. it helps him forget the nerves and the awkwardness, and kageyama getting a fistful of his fluffed up hair helps a lot.
however.
his hands move out of his hair, not totally uncommon (this is hinata we're talking about) and he rests them on kageyama's chest for a second, totally innocent and not at all planning something. it's not like he knows all of kageyama's ticklish spots from jumping on him when he looks too serious. his hand skates downward, light as anything, and then he lunges for the attack, tickling immediately into the ticklish spots under his ribs. ]
[ For the most part, all of Kageyama's behavior can be blamed on the fact that he's just not socially aware. He does get embarrassed after the fact, sometimes, but it really depends on what he's done or who's around. Tsukishima just winds up pissing him off, most of the time, so instead of getting properly embarrassed like a normal human being he just ignores that he exists and does as he pleases. After all, it makes Tsukishima feel awkward enough sometimes, and he gets to kiss Hinata. It's a win/win situation, in his mind.
And, anyways, it's worth getting flustered a little himself when he can look at Hinata turning bright red.
Not that Hinata can't get revenge fairly easily against him. They compete in everything, although he's pretty sure it's a hit-or-miss situation as to whether or not his decoy and spiker does it intentionally. Some of the things he says or does really gets to Tobio, because he's still... he's still getting used to the fact that they can do this, and that his best friend/rival/boyfriend has every intention of standing at the top of the world with him, all the way to the end. He knows it as a truth, now, but still.
And then shit like this happens.
Kageyama outright yelps (AGAIN) as he pulls back from the kiss, trying to jerk away from Hinata's touch. He's also trying desperately not to laugh, but splutters a little, words turning into laughter as he squirms and pushes - ] St-stop, Hinahahaha -
