Recruitment/Plotting Post

SO. I'm kind of stupid in love with the city Midgar from Final Fantasy 7. I always thought that the very beginning of the game was the best part, and that Shinra was much more of any interesting villain that Sephiroth & Jenova.

This is actually a crossover I've been bouncing around in my head for a long time, but I've never really been able to give it much thought until now thanks to school. After seeing how skaiabound fared, I've learned it's better to begin this kind of thing in the summer, amongst a couple other things.

So essentially what I'm thinking of is HS chars put in this world, sans Seph/Jenova, with Shinra as the primary villain, and most if not all of it taking place in Midgar. If you are unfamiliar with FF7 that is okay! I will type up an explanation post of both the city and the company, and maybe link some Lets Play because you can seriously learn all you need to know in the first 20-30 minutes of the game. Sadly not much of it takes place in Midgar.

This is mostly just a tentative recruitment post where others can toss their ideas in and ask questions. So far characters taken are:

I don't think we have to fill every single slot but those are currently the slots. We have temps for Karkat and Terezi but they are still open. Plotwise, this is what is going on so far.

Shinra: Shinra is a powerful, global conglomerate whose main source of income is through the creation of materia. Materia are gems that allow people to use various sorts of magic and summons, and they are made via mako energy. Mako energy, in short is the essence of Earth which they siphon from within it. This of course is slowly, but surely killing the planet but there are other repercussions. One of the biggest, is mako poisoning. These factories often end up poisoning the surrounding areas, mako is not something that people are suppose to be exposed to and if in great quantities it can mutate or even kill people.

Midgar: I will provide a post with more detail on the exact schematics, but Midgar is the largest and most industrialized city in this world. You can find images here. There are several levels to the city, the very bottom being the slums which are an incredibly dangerous and poverty-stricken area where many people are tossed down and left to fend for there own. The top is where only an elite few are able to live in the laps of luxury. Shinra headquarters are found here, and nearby are a good portion of their factories.

Trolls: Trolls in this world are humans, they are just humans who have been exposed to some degrees of mako poisoning, and thus mutated. Whether they've been like that from birth, or slowly changed over continued exposure is up to you. The more poisoning they've had, the more likely they are to have natural psychic/magical abilities, but this also means they have a higher chance of suffering other side effects of your choosing.

Avalanche: Though it will probably go by a different name, in the original game, Avalanche was a group of insurgents/terrorists who worked to bring Shinra down. When I first thought of this, I figured that would essentially be the goal of the kids---take down Shinra before it kills the planet. But I am open for all ideas! This is a plotting post and we'll need more than just that to keep the game going.

So have at it! Remember nothing here has to be permanent, it's more to just toss ideas around and figure out possible CR, how you're chars have changed, and since this is AU don't be afraid to go crazy.

I have Nepeta here and Kanaya (if no one else picks her up) over at raysandfrogs.

Nep I am keeping at the 13-15 range, but Kanaya will probably be a bit older 18-20 somewhere around there. Nepeta is a slum-child and Kanaya will be somewhere in the Middle plates so she can be good as far as resources and information goes but beyond that I have not thought of much yet. Looking to see if anyone would like any particular kind of history/CR?

Okay so I am not quite sure what I am doing with Dave (here) or Gamzee (both at soporedup and soberedup), save for the fact that Gamzee is going to be addicted to materia instead of sopor slime. It's going to have pretty damaging effects on him, making him constantly ill as it kind of eats away at him? And over time it's. Going to very much start killing him.

The only problem with him being "taken off" materia, if you would, is the fact that he's sober!Gamzee. So on one hand, super friendly chill bro who is being killed by the very thing that keeps him chill. On the other hand, homicidal juggalo with overkill abilities due to the materia.

I imagine he's probably a slum-child, like Nepeta, but closer in age to Kanaya.

Dave idk yet. Bro was probably an ex-SOLDIER or something that turned on Shinra. I'll get back to you on him later. As I continue to tell myself that no, we don't need all of the kids going through trollifying mako poisoning, shut up Snow that wouldn't be totally awesome.

HOKAY. So I have Sollux and John up for plotting shenanigans.

I know John is possibly going to be the co-leader of the terrorist group with Karkat. (If thats not okay Eme let me know, we kind of assumed.) He's going to be about seventeen or eighteen and also slowly suffering from the Mako poisoning and turning into a troll. He'll eventually start wearing gloves so you guys can call him out on it. He will still be his cute derpy self. he just might also be a bit of a pyro and well. you know. a terrorist. welp.

FOR SOLLUX I HAVE NO IDEA OR PLANS WITH ASIDE FROM HIM HEARING THE VOICES OF THE DAMNED (lifestream????) AND HAVING RIDICULOUS POWERS. and all of that is canon. so. come at me bros.

OKAY Hi again, I was sort of in /absentmindedfish mode yesterday and didn't check this post but okay - so I have Terezi over at l4dyjust1c3 and Aradia here, if that's okay - but then again, I can just temp AA until someone else is interested/etc/I don't know. Oddly enough I do not see many Aradias on livejournal.
But I'm rambling.

I'm all up for plotting!!! inb4 no kidding, Ari, that's the whole point but SHH --I'm rambling again.

So Terezi [20-ish, at best?] can tip either side of the scale; however, given the circumstances I'm thinking her heightened senses of JUSTICE are kind of a big opening to throw her into anything even remotely oriented to opposing Shinra? Because, well, the world being slowly killed and people everywhere being exposed to mako poisoning is a Big Deal and deserves some good ol' retributive justice.
I'm brainstorming for ideas to deal with her canon blindness; I was thinking it could happen eventually, but I think it's mostly because I'm at a loss for ideas thus far so... Feel free to suggest anything??

As for Aradia [18-ish, maybe?], well... I am guessing she might have been more exposed to mako poisoning than Terezi up there? That's just a thought, but apparently I'm all up for coming up with pseudo-canon equivalents and I'm honestly going to have to brainstorm because Aradia kind of does that thing where she can hear the voices of the dead and then when she dies she goes around breaking things with telekinesis - but that's canon and we all know that. Not to mention that, well, she's not... Supposed to be dead here. I guess.

So brainstorming and plotting y/y because I love everyone hahaha I'm still so horribly shy /)__(\. But seriously, these are just some ~general~ ideas, there's... Really no CR in them, first off and they could use a lot of polishing anyway.

Okay ya'll! I got some things mashed out for Vriska here~ In bullet point, even!

- She's (apparently?!) the oldest thus far at age 23.
- She joined the group at 20.
- She's 4'7" tall AHAHAHHAHAHAHAH...
- Her specialty is guns/firearms. She wields guns twice her size and her dream is to own a flamethrower one day (but John won't let her ::::'( )
- John is her moirail! They bonded fast.
- She became fulled trollified at age 12. She was born with yellow eyes and skinned nubs on her skull. Her horns broke through, but not before growing to almost three inches. It was bad.
- Her mother died before she became fully troll. No one knows how or why but Vriska.
- Most of the taller guys she uses as ladders to reach high places. Namely Gamzee and John.
- She smokes various things.
- She acts as a sort of bodyguard for Kanaya when she's down in the slums helping out the less fortunate. No pay, but she has her reasons.
- She doesn't hesitate to shoot people. Mostly in nonlethal areas like kneecaps or shoulders. She's shot Gamzee a few good times already.
- She's a little fond of Nepeta, but doesn't baby her like everyone else does.

YEAH THAT'S IT SORT OF so far anyways. I've probably forgotten stuff sob.... If you wanna chip in with some sort of relationship detail go for it!

Taking a leaf out of Lassie's book and putting bullet points for what I've figured out of my characters here. Mentioned most of this on plurk but that's going to get lost eventually xD

Kanaya

-Comes from the Middle plate. Her mother was a slum child but she managed to make her way up through hard work and fortunate encounters.
-They run a tailor shop but because of all the pollution, her mother has become very sick and weak as of late so Kanaya has started running it on her own.
-She is 19 years old
-She is still mostly human since she hasn't had much exposure; only has some slighted pointed ears and the beginnings of fangs
-Since she was 13 she and her mother have been going down to the slums to do charity work--mostly giving clothing to those in need. She has continued to do this even after her mother fell ill, and once she joined SCRATCH she also brings them food, medicine, and other supplies.
-She is moirails with Karkat
-A lesbian but more secretive about it in this society--Karkat is likely the only one who knows.
-Still in large part the same as her canon self but a little more repressed, and as far as the slums go she can be a bit naive (tho not overly so).
-Not very good at fighting with weapons, I don't think she'd really be able to get ahold of a chainsaw so I need to think of a replacement but she's good with magic materia (element type ones).
-Probably somewhere in the 5'7/5'8 range and very slender.
-Vri acts as a sort of bodyguard for her and she is very much going red for her.
-When above she gathers what information she can for the group.
-Does have a small tiff going on with Vri about how much she should come down to the slums since Vri doesn't want her changing anymore.
-At one point she might be picked up by Don Corneo's men which could give us fun cross dressing rescue times.

Nepeta
-Slum child! Born and raised, what is this thing called 'the sun'?
-15 years old and she was born with all her troll features, horns, tail, and all that jazz. Not a pleasant birth to day the least.
-Little sister to Karkat, Anna lets discuss parent things *3*
-She has always had the shipping wall so no one really finds it unusual to see it up, but lately she's turned it as a means of communication with the others.
-On that she is very into painting and paints all sorts of colorful and beautiful murals around the slums to give it more life. Sometimes she is joined by Gamzee c:
-Uses daggers and throwing knives, and pretty good at support materia. Not physically strong like wow as she was in canon though but still very quick and agile.
-She reeaalllly hates having to stay behind on missions and even sneaks along sometimes!
-She does some hunting/scavenging around the train tracks as a means of making money for the group but that's not enough for her---there are probably lots of thing she does behind the group's back as a way of trying to help.
-Still largely like her canon self except a bit calmer because of her age and upbringing. She's always willing to listen to the concerns of others. She has no moirail so sorta tries to help everyone out.
-She takes care of Gamzee whenever he is really sick :( and since she doesn't realize why he's on materia she will be trying very hard to convince him to let go of it!
-The abandoned church Aeris use to grow her garden in is probably hers and where she keeps all the stray cats. All of them.
