There's a war we can't ignore, waging silence on our lives. We will overcome, let the cowards run and hide. We were born to take it back, This is revelational - I am not afraid, love is coming out to play. They'll chain our hands And close the door - There's nothing worse Than wanting more. We come outside, They run and hide. In the morning sun, baby we were born to run.larcenies ★ enchain |

The harder I push, The more that I live. The years that it took, To be understood. and The harder I strive, The more that I - The hunger I hide the more that I - And the longer i go, the more that i choke, the hands on my throat i've been waiting for. and the harder i pull, the more that i - i know that i will the more that i - neraiuchi ★ backstops ★ catchalls |

I wait in intermission, I remove inhibition. I don't speak, nobody's listen. It's not safe to seek the attention. I won't sink, I won't wallow, In this dream that I have borrowed. So don't lead, I won't follow. There's no sense in waiting for tomorrow. undergrowl |

Give me a disaster, give me emergency, stand me at the head of the crusades without a remedy. Show me to the shipwreck, show me how your bones shake. But if all we are is just machines, then let's become a miracle And break free from these chains. We must be more than just machines, So let them hear our hearts, so let them hear our hearts. Where will you run when there's no place left for you to hide? When you're faced with the flood, will you stand for the future, And swallow your pride?

Take a step, take another step, take another step, not a care for where they fall. You burned me, yeah you've burned me, yeah you've burned me now one too many times. My thoughts are the cold kind, I've got storm clouds that are brewing behind my eyes. And my heart will be blacker than your eyes when I'm through with you.

MASTICATE.
Yes, Yusuke is more aware than ever these days that he classifies as what most would consider odd. Living an isolated life in Madarame's atelier, he had little social interaction to act as a benchmark for what passes as normal in society. Hearing others comment on his eccentricities stings, but he still lacks the means by which to change.
But Akira is different from other people, even among their comrades in the Phantom Thieves. The bespectacled boy is often quirky himself, with off-the-cuff remarks and quietly outlandish ideas, yet he is respected and admired by their fellows. Oftentimes Yusuke finds himself wishing he could be more like Akira, possessed of a natural charisma that draws in the outcast and lonely. It gives their leader a sort of beauty all his own. That beauty is what makes Yusuke gravitate to him, gives weight to the orders and plans he issues as Joker. Society sees Akira as a criminal, but Yusuke knows his friend's heart is golden and bright.
"Every day I find myself more indebted to you." Yusuke pushes the sweep of his bangs away from his face, smiling faintly. "It is not a debt I mind, however, and it has nothing to do with money. Each day is a gift of freedom, unbound by lies and self-deception. I feel I can truly begin to live now, all thanks to you. You and our other comrades, of course."

That's part of why he works so hard to learn everything from Sojiro, once the man opened up to him, offered him his craft. He'd effectively inherited the perfected curry recipe, and he has every intention of making sure that he gets it just right, so that he can not only carry on the legacy, but also so that he can share it with his friends. They're all a bunch of outcasts, for whatever reason, but... he feels like they're the reason he's even able to do any of these things.
All he's ever wanted to do was help. But the more they learned, the more apparent it became that Akira couldn't do it alone. And he hadn't wanted to, either, whether it came to attending Shujin where he was shunned and slandered, or if it came down to facing Shadows and the adults that were shaped by them and their warped desires.
His smile straightens out, a proper uptick on both sides. "You were the one that freed yourself, in the end. I think the best way you can pay back that debt is to make sure you keep living freely, no matter what anyone says."

"To be so fortunate as to have friends like you, I feel I am truly blessed. Indeed, my world feels much brighter now for having you in it. I promise not to waste such a gift."
He smiles when the waitress brings them their coffee. Where once his smiles were polite but empty things, never reaching far enough to wipe the hollow numbness from his eyes, Yusuke finds it much easier now to offer genuine ones even to those touching his life for only an instant. The coffee isn't Leblanc's-- and certainly isn't Akira's best personal effort-- but it's decent enough with a touch of cream after the first few sips.
"If I might ask a favor? Would you be willing to model for a painting one day? In our... other most frequented setting, if you understand my meaning." There's no denying how striking a picture Joker makes in the Metaverse, and after their first artistic foray, Yusuke knows they can handle any Shadows that might come their way.

Yusuke is just fine the way he is, he thinks. "I'll hold you to that, and make the same promise to you. I'm lucky that I got to meet you and the others."
His own smile comes easy - he's a regular here, having spent so many rainy days studying or bringing friends here or meeting the Iwais - but for a while there, it was a little halfhearted. Making friends with Ryuji, and Morgana, and Ann, Yusuke. With everyone. It made it more real, more easy to call upon. He understands all of his friends, and where they come from, when it comes to that, and he couldn't be more grateful for them than he is.
There's a pause where he perks up, always ready to give a favor. And... Yusuke's doesn't surprise him, really. But Akira inclines his head as he adds a splash of cream to his own coffee, which needs it, in his opinion, unlike Sojiro's or his own. "I'd be happy to, and honored to."

Quickly, he steers himself back on topic. "You said that love comes in many forms. Friendship is itself a form of love, correct? Then if I seek to portray the pure beauty of love, it is only fitting that I capture the camaraderie I share with my fellow Thieves." And of course, Akira deserves the honor of his first attempt, since Yusuke is closest to him out of the group. "You needn't worry that anyone will discover who we are, this work will be a study purely for my own benefit."
