[There was one and only one reason Midoriya Izuku got into the lawyer business, and his name is Todoroki Shouto. When they were young they briefly shared a class together and Shouto was the only person there who was willing to defend him when he was accused of stealing lunch money- and from that day forth Shouto was Izuku's favorite person.
They managed to stay together for a while before tragedy struck and Shouto moved away. Years down the line, Izuku caught a news program about prosecutor Todoroki Shouto having a 100% conviction record, and his entire day stopped right there. Something happened. Something had to have happened because Shouto always said he wanted to be a defense lawyer- that was the day he changed his major. That was the day he decided he was somehow going to save Todorki Shouto from himself.
He just wishes their first meeting in years wasn't over the trial of Uraraka Ochako. There's no way a girl like her would have killed Toshinori Yagi. He has all of his evidence in his briefcase and he's ready to do this.

Physically yes, he's as prepared as he'll ever be. Emotionally? There's no way he could be prepared to have his first run in with Shouto go like this. Which is why he's standing at the lobby benches and trying to keep his breathing even.]
[ When he was growing up, Shouto's mother was the kindest, most understanding defense lawyer of her era. How she'd managed to marry the hardest, harshest prosecutor is a mystery to many people except the Todoroki family themselves, but that was his family. And he'd been dreaming of following in his mother's footsteps, determined to held defend people, to be a hero. That's what he tried to be as a child, befriending Midoriya Izuku and defending him from a classroom that'd found a scapegoat to jump on.
But his mother had broken, and so had his dream.
That's why they're here, now, Shouto following in the footsteps of Todoroki Enji instead. He's embittered and harsh, honesty more brutal than simply blunt much of the time. And at first he'd thought he'd misread who the defense attorney was going to be. But now, he's standing in the lobby, and it's like they're in primary school all over again, a shock of unruly green hair standing out like a beacon.
He takes his own, even breath, and approaches. Izukkun. ] Midoriya.
[Izuku's mentor was All Might, well known, kind, understanding- he came up after Shouto's mother, and looked up to her, even if he was never able to work with her.
Izuku looks at Shouto, the cold look on his face and wonders how, even more than when he saw him on the news all those many years ago. Shoucchan, this isn't like him. This wasn't the person he wanted to be when he grew up.
He's watched some of his trials on television before and they don't sound like him. Shouto was always blunt and honest but there he's harsher than he would have been in elementary school. His heart goes out to him. Can he do this? Can he heal him this way?
It doesn't matter if he can or can't. He has to.]

[Can he really say it's good to see him again? When he looks like that? When he acts that way?]
[ A part of him almost wants to pass this case off onto someone else, as something in his chest constricts tight, like a vice lodged in his ribs. But Shouto has never backed down from a fight before, and he's done his best to put away truly awful people. It's not quite where he wanted to be, growing up. Not even a little bit. Is he still a hero, when he's almost as ruthless as his father?
Does he think Uraraka Ochako is guilty? She doesn't seem the type, but many people hide dark secrets that rarely ever come to light. And it's his job to do that, to shine that light.
Or that's what he tells himself. If he can unseat his old man as the best prosecutor, maybe it'll all be worth it in the end. ]
[He misses Shouto, his Shouto, his Shoucchan. The boy that he spent a year with, his best friend. But life is never as straightforward as he wishes. This wasn't the degree he thought he'd end up pursuing, but Todoroki thought he wanted to be a defense lawyer.
Life changes people.
Izuku takes a breath, locks his gaze with Shouto's and nods.]

[He knows Uraraka is innocent, and he's going to find the person who did it. If it means fighting Todoroki Shouto in court, then so be it.
Even if a small part of him wishes it was any other prosecutor.]
