[ Who knows? He sure doesn't, buthe does know that this whole thing has left him feeling drained, so maybe they do. Regardless, though, he considers what he was told, and eventually nods.

[He follows quietly at Todoroki's side. As comfortable as he feels with him, he's not too certain what to ask or what to talk about.]

... What were you doing before you got here? Um. If it's okay to ask.

I don't mind. [ Though he knows there are some things he can't answer. That's what he's most worried about, considering Midoriya Izuku makes a habit of sticking his nose into thinga. ]

I was a student at a school for heroes. We'd just switched to on-campus dorms, and were getting prepared for a... sort of examination.

A school for heroes! Oh wow, that sounds amazing!

[ It's probably a good thing he's not very expressive when at rest. He wants to say it's your school, too, but he can't.

So, instead, Shouto lifts his right hand and summons crystals of ice along his hand and wrist. ]

I'm in the top of the class with a handful of other students, I guess.

[There's a certain sparkle in his eyes when he sees Todoroki's quirk (half his quirk) at work.]

That's amazing! You're amazing if you're at the top of your class. How does your quirk work? Do you get cold when you use it? Is there a limit to how long you can stand to use it?

[Ever curious when it comes to quirks- it's too bad he doesn't have a notebook to write everything down in.]

[ If he had his memories, he could answer all of these questions in his own. Shouto is no fool, he knows Izuku figured out the odds and ends of his quirk through observation and exposure. Maybe not all of them, but a lot. ]

It's ice generation, with manipulation to a certain degree. If i concentrate, I can make it happen, and with a level head I can do a lot. [ He lowers his right hand, raises his left to ignite a flame. ] If I overuse it without regulating, I risk frostbite. So my fire side balances it out.

I don't notice the changes in temperature like most people, I don't think.

[He doesn't have the memories to answer it for himself- but he's pretty sure if he just keeps watching Shouto use it casually he'll figure things out. Still, it's nice to be able to ask questions like this.]

Fire and ice! That must be really useful. You never have to deal with freezing during the winter or feeling like you're gonna melt during the summer.

Mm. It's useful in combat and in everyday life. I still have to adjust for the weather, but it's not something I think about. It's instinctive.

[ Such as the way he walks with his cool side next to Izuku, since it's easing into summertime now. To make sure he doesn't overheat him, dead or not.

[ He sideeyes him a little, not sure of if he should talk too much more about his quirk. But he gives a bit more, for now. ]

I inherited the ice from my mother and the fire from my father, so, yeah.

[He looks a little puzzled by the look.]

That makes sense. [And then he looks confused. Why would that make any sense?] So they're genetic in nature.

[ This is already difficult. He's not sure how he's going to manage keeping things from him when he's so used to their easy exchanges. ]

Generally, yeah. Some manifest separately from their family genetics, but as far as society knows it's dependent on the history.

So quirks are pretty common if people know so much about them, right?
