[ Generally speaking, Ryousuke is fairly disinterested in do-gooding.

This isn't to say that he's a bad guy, or whatever - that title belonged to more obnoxious, stupid people - but he's not the shining pinnacle of superheroism that most civilians idolize and talk about. Vigilantism is frowned upon, even by your own family, but he tends to ignore that and just go about his business as he pleases. So long as he's not caught in the act, there's not much that people can do. After all, if they don't find bodies, he's mostly left to his own devices - so he won't leave any, unless they're still breathing.

Unfortunately, because of his affiliation with his brother, he's still managed to wind up associating with guilds and other "heroes." This is grating on the best of days, and homicide-inducing on others, but there's one person in particular that he's somehow found it easy to be around now that they've clicked into sync. As a psionic, his specialization rests with the mind, so he's somehow found his match in the far more physical Kuramochi Youichi. After giving him shit when they first met, and more than one close call where they surprisingly worked well while covering one anothers' backs, they've basically been inseparable.

This has, of course, resulted in the natural growth of their relationship. Even without psychic powers Ryousuke would know that Kuramochi was in love with him, and he's never needed them to read him. And, frustrating as it is, he figured out pretty quickly that he was in love with him, too. Which is what makes Youichi throwing himself between him and danger all the more grating, even if he can take a bullet a lot better than he can. He's not frail, just squishy like a normal person, so of course his stupid other half is a lot more resilient than him to make up for it.

Doesn't mean that he doesn't scold him, and didn't have the shit scared out of him, when Kuramochi takes a hit meant for him.

His hands, though, always give him away.

They're not as banged up as they could be, but they still can't really go to hospitals for minor cases like these - his thin fingers work slowly, winding gauze where necessary and pinching butterfly bandages deftly despite the noises that come out of Kuramochi every time he's a little firmer to make sure that he heals right.

When he finishes, though, Ryousuke shifts, moving to tip forward so that he's no longer sitting across from Kuramochi on the coffee table but instead winds up perched delicately in his lap. There's nothing he has to say, rather he simply rests his cheek against his shoulder, nose tucked close to the pulse in his throat as his hands settle at his waist.

[ people have asked kuramochi if he's fearless before.

it's a pretty easy question, though it's not because of his superpowers--his super strength and speed, his near invulnerability from said speed. it's not because of his tattoos, or his piercings, or the way he rattles down highways on his motorcycle just because he can, revving the engines and leaving behind nothing but the sound of his laugh on the wind. no: people ask if he's fearless because he spends a solid 75% of his time with kominato ryousuke.

ryousuke's got a little bit of a reputation in this world. one person claims he's a vampire. another says he can predict the future. another hushed whisper says he and his brother aren't actually related, that haruichi's his perfect, kind copy. kuramochi thinks that one's bullshit in particular, but of all things, he understands it. ryousuke commands respect and fear in twain because he's earned it. his skills are terrifying and awe-inspiring, and he refuses to take anything as what it is. he's tiny and dangerous.

and kuramochi loves him. kuramochi loves him so much it hurts sometimes. he earned ryousuke's trust and worked with him--thus the whispers, 'fearless' behind his back, but the reality was that he did have a healthy fear for ryousuke. it was just that his trust, love, respect and any other emotion he can bring to mind--warmth, happiness, so on and so forth--outweighs that 99% of the time.

it's why he leapt in front of a sheet of bullets for him. his super healing makes that kind of stuff not bother him so much (though if one would have struck him in the heart, he would have been dead meat) but it didn't even occur to him. all he thought was ryo-san and threw himself in front of him out of instinct.

as ryousuke patches him up, he's quiet. getting shot does actually hurt, like a lot, superpowers or not, and he marks it with a swear when ryou has to pinch or pull, yank the bullets out with tongs. normally, ryousuke would tell him he's being a baby, and he'd grumble something back about bullets and pain, ryo-san, like a lot of pain but today it's quiet. something's off. it seems kuramochi's action is weighing heavy on them both.

as he settles back against the couch and feels the uncomfortable sensation of his tissue knitting back together, kuramochi doesn't resist even a little when ryou comes over to him. as he gets close, he hooks his arm around his waist and turns his head a little to kiss the top of his pink head.

(the thing is, kuramochi is a little fearless. he'd do it a thousand times over if it meant ryo-san was still alive.) ]

Ryo-san. [ he says, quietly, a grumble in his chest, words tucked into his hair: it's more than just his name, it's 'i'm here'. ]

[ It's always a surreal experience, to touch Kuramochi while he's healing. He sets bones, holds his arm or leg in the cradle of his hands until it feels like he can move on to something else. Bullets have to be pried free before he winds up healing them out of his body or has them rattling around and constantly causing damage, and he's watched as the wounds start to heal not long after the obstruction has been removed. Ryousuke finds it fascinating rather than off-putting, and is perhaps a little off-putting himself for the intrigue that comes with watching his other half, nigh-invulnerable, heal from injuries.

But it feels different, when he sustains these injuries because of him.

More than once he's called him a baby, told him suck it up, Youichi or if you don't want it to hurt, stop being so reckless, but right now the moment feels a little more sober by comparison. He's tired, sore, and he pieces him back together while ignoring the healing injury that'd been square in his sternum. Any harder, or that tiny centimeter to the left, and he'd probably be dead right now.

Invulnerable, but not immortal.

With blood under his nails, Ryousuke shifts as Kuramochi hooks his arm around him, settling so that he's straddled on his lap but has his knees bracketing his ribs rather than his hips. His flexibility has benefited him on more than one occasion - in combat and in bed alike - but right now, it just lets him tuck up like a tired pillbug as he lets out a little hum in response to his name. It's confirmation, an I know, as he traces his fingers carefully along the bandaged wounds, tracking progress of the ones that he can see.

Since Haruichi was born, he knew that he would protect him, do anything for him. It's his job as his big brother, and the motivating factor behind his use of his powers. But then Kuramochi Youichi happened, and he thinks that if anything happened to him he would burn the world to ashes at the first opportunity.

We should get you a bulletproof vest.

[ kuramochi can't help but laugh at that remark--it shakes out of his chest and rattles the healing tissue a little so it comes out scratchy, but he can't help the two note 'hyaha!', energetic even if he's exhausted. it's not often that he feels vulnerable, with the superpowers he was gifted, but today it was obvious. if he'd been hit maybe a centimeter over, he'd be dead right now instead of sitting on his beat up old couch with ryousuke in his lap. it still would have been worth it, he thinks, because if he had to trade his life for ryo's, he'd give it up in a second.

still, it's sobering. kuramochi's not really ready to die: he has a life ahead of him he'd like to live, a life with the person on his lap right now.

so, he runs his hand down his back, slowly, a touch that's more tender than he'll ever really admit. he should be more careful, but this is part of his job as seido city's famous iron wall. he'll defend anyone, and if that person includes his longterm partner, then so be it.

that hand shifts up into his hair instead, threading in the soft pink strands and curling there lightly, holding him close, even closer. he doesn't say i'm sorry for scaring you just like ryousuke doesn't say he was scared, and that suits him just fine. they've always been able to communicate beyond words, anyway. ]

'm my own bulletproof vest. [ he says, nodding his head towards the small pile of bloodied bullets now on the table, and the fact that he's still breathing. ] You're the one that needs one, Ryo-san.

[ Pressed up against Kuramochi the way he is, Ryousuke can feel the way the laugh scratches through his strong chest. He's not even laying his full weight on him - knows better than to do this while he's healing - but he wants to, wants to just press him into the couch as tight as he can like it'll mean he can shield him the way that he'd shielded him on the battlefield. But he knows he can't, not in the same way. It's frustrating to know that, despite the strength of his mind and what he can do with it, that he's effectively human otherwise. Being surrounded by so many resilient people, who can take a beating, is something that has him striving to get stronger, pushing himself.

What good is his role in all of this, if he can't keep up with the people who are physically powered? Their strength isn't everything, true, but it keeps them alive. It keeps their loved ones alive.

Slowly, he relaxes against him as his hand strokes along his spine, until he's half-melted against him when he feels fingers curling in his hair. They both need a shower, but Ryousuke would rather wait for a while before he unfolds himself and drags Kuramochi along to the bathroom.
]

You'd just be bruised if you had one. [ His hand unfolds from between their chests, so he can pat him on the bicep, faux mocking. ] Me, I doubt I'd fit into most vests.

what if i killed off kuramochi

[personal profile] hyaha 2016-02-07 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ feeling ryousuke relax against him is like a little victory, one that kuramochi's managed to get his hands on a number of times now. everything with ryo is earned, and kuramochi has always strove to meet his extremely high expectations and take them up another level. for someone who has no psionic powers at all, he and ryousuke have always been on the same wavelength, able to read each other intuitively, perfectly. there's a reason why they're called the 'iron wall', because things don't get past either of them when they work together. it had taken blood and sweat and effort, but kuramochi's partnership in ryousuke--in so many ways--is something he'd never trade away. once he had him, as a partner, as a friend, as so much more, kuramochi had no plans of giving him back.

so, till death do us part, kinda. that's fine with youichi, though hopefully his death comes later than sooner.

kuramochi snorts at being patted, drops his cheek to rest on the top of his head and watch him. ryousuke is probably right (ryousuke is generally right, unless he's being stubborn about something, which has happened) but kuramochi probably won't start wearing one. he's always been reckless, felt sort of invincible, even though he knows that's impossible.

he rifles through answers in his head that aren't offensive ("they make them in kids/women sizes") before just settling on a tired laugh instead, his keen golden eyes watching his hand. ]
'sides, no one ever catches you anyway. Today was a fluke.

[ a fluke, definitely, but one kuramochi is still kind of feeling in his chest and stomach. ]

[ However their relationship might have started (hint: poorly), Ryousuke is thankful for what it is now. No one really understands him the way that Kuramochi does, which he wasn't sure he wanted at first but came to enjoy more than anything else. They have each others' backs, they can predict one another to an eerie degree, even without his powers. After all, Kuramochi certainly doesn't have them.

What really tends to catch him off guard is the fact that he's put first, above even his own safety. Ryousuke has never been in that position before - Haruichi is the golden child, the pinnacle of a hero and good person, and he understands that personally. He's always put his brother first, even if it's never seemed like it. Kuramochi Youichi puts him first, as is evidenced now by his healing body. It makes his heart seize in his chest, fierce affection and possessive protectiveness.

As always, his hands ultimately give him away. He's efficient with mending Kuramochi, a firm if gentled hand. He never strikes Haruichi with more than a dull thump, compared to the sharp blade of his hand that he inflicts on others. He's delicate with books, cherishing the pages of them, keeping them in mint condition whether they be hardback or paperback.

With Kuramochi, now, he goes from being patronizing to gently running his fingers up his bare arm, tracing out muscle definition and ink, following it to his collar. It's an absentminded touch, but it's tender, a reassurance to them both that he's perfectly intact despite the healing injuries that are peppered across his body. The way they're seated, Ryousuke can feel his chest expand, contract, easy breaths in and out against his own, as he mulls over whatever answer he wants to offer.

A wiser choice comes out of his mouth, and he huffs a small chuckle in return.
] I suppose that's true. [ He knows better, but doesn't call him on it. ] I'm a little more wily than most people are prepared for.
