About a hundred times. [ mei does know she looks beautiful, thank you--several hours in the hair and makeup chair would assure that, several months stubbornly refusing to pick a dress until The Dress happened helped too. but... looking in her reflection when her mother came by earlier in the day, mei'd felt the unfamiliar wad of tears starting to rise up in her throat, too.

someone had said that she looked different--just one of her employees, on any random day, but it stuck with her, because she felt different. her time with itsuki felt like it was just... a long time coming. like it was where she belonged, a puzzle piece finally stuck in the right spot. itsuki makes her laugh twice as much as he makes her cry, makes her get flustered and emotional and annoyed and makes her feel alive, in a way that she'd never felt with anyone else. it's said when you get married, you should marry your best friend, and mei realizes that today, has realized it since they started dating.

because itsuki has always been her best friend. even when she thought he was an irritating only-good-for-being-a-packmule kohai and nothing else, mei had learned to get used to his presence. she's told him her secrets when she refused to tell anyone else, he's shoved gatorade down her throat when she hid while she was sick, he's held her during scary movies and driven in the passenger seat beside her while she zoomed halfway across town just to get away from her life for a little while. itsuki had always been there, and the idea of losing him was more terrifying than almost anything she could think of--and that's how she knew.

she'd always been the type to throw boys away when she got bored with them. itsuki--she never wanted to let him go.

she huffs, rolls her eyes when he makes the joke, but it can't really eliminate the glow that's been around her all day, either, and as they come close, mei rests her cheek against his chest and hides her tiny, private smile. ]
I could hear it again, though.
