[The only way for your scars to disappear is when your soulmate kisses them goodbye.
It's hard to tell who your soulmate is, and it's not like just going up and kissing random people's scars is even a remotely normal thing to do. But sometimes, sometimes you get lucky, and the person you've decided to date is the one for you.
He's not completely covered in scars, sure there's the ones on his hand and his arms, and the normal ones that happen as a child. But mostly he's careful.
Izuku's one of the lucky few. And he realizes this while gently kissing the back of Shouto's hand, it's a small scar, he's not sure what it might have been, but it seems like an older scar. He didn't get it over the time Izuku's known him, that's for sure.
Still, he's amazed when he watches the scar just fade away as soon as his lips have left it.]
[ Growing up in a world where soulmates are a proven thing, Shouto... well, when he was young, he'd been bright eyed and optimistic about more than just heroics. But after seeing the way his father treated his mother, he'd changed his tune pretty fast over the years.
But then he'd met Izuku. Then he'd started dating Izuku.
It hadn't really occurred to him that they could be soulmates, not until he was reminded that there were actually good things in his shitty life. And even then, he wasn't entirely sure whether he should say anything about it. Don't ruin a good thing.
The scar is old, one from his childhood, and he blinks as he watches it fade with him. ]
Oh. [ His voice is quiet, though no less surprised. He almost can't believe it, so shifts his hand, taking Izuku's beat up one. More than once, he's rubbed his thumb over his knuckles, apologetic but fond in spades.
This time, Shouto flicks his eyes up to his face, then brings his hand up to press his lips to the thick scar that bisects the back of it. ]
[He's always believed in soulmates, just like he's always believed in becoming a hero- the first thing was a matter of luck and the other was matter of determination. But somehow, some way they met each other and became rivals, friends and lovers.
He can't help the blush as he feels Shouto's lips on his skin.
It's one thing to see somebody else's old scar disappear, but it's something else to watch your own scar fade away at a kiss. They've kissed each other before, not on their scars because well- it's a little intimidating. But this is the tangible proof that they were meant for each other.]
Oh. [It's hard to think of anything more to say when something so amazing's been revealed to you.]
[ This - is a little hard for him to believe, even as he's seen some old scar from Endeavor's rough training disappear like it's never been there. Sure, he knows some of their friends and schoolmates have gone from a nasty scar to nothing, but it just... it's easy to fear that it won't be something that happens with you. Even if he knows he loves Izuku.
The proof of their being soulmates stares him in the face, as he watches the mark disappear. Shouto had seen the injury that caused that. Was, actually, the cause of it. He's curled his fingers over it when they held hands.
It's gone now. ]
It's real. [ He can't help but sound a little amazed, rubbing a calloused finger over the now blank skin, trying to find that scar-smooth texture.
There isn't any. Shouto laughs. It's a short noise, but still incredulous and strangely giddy. ] Holy shit.
[He stares at their intertwined hands, both a little less scared than they were a few moments ago.
It's real. He's really met his soulmate. His soulmate is Shouto- who he'd love with all his heart even if they weren't soulmates- but they are and it's incredible and- and he can definitely feel himself starting to tear up, even as he smiles.]
It is. It's really real.
[He kisses another scar on Shouto's hand away, gentle, like he can hardly believe his luck.]
[ With their lives, they've accumulated scars at a steady rate. Shouto knows that Izuku got more than his fair share in the first year they knew each other, and he's seen the progression of them across his body ever since. The idea that he can kiss them away, it's unbelievable.
And yet he can.
His eyebrows raise as he watches the next scar fade away, his fingers twitching a little where they're together.
Frankly, it's kind of terrifying. But in a good way. ]
I don't - [ Believe it? Know how this happened? Know what to say, more like, and he squeezes his hand. ]
[It's hard to know what to say with this kind of revelation.
But he knows he's happy here, right next to Shouto, knowing that they're perfect for each other. He's overjoyed knowing that any scars that his boyfriend sustains he can just kiss away. As heroes, they accumulate plenty of them. And it's nice, it's amazing, to know that he can make them disappear, to know that he really does have that kind of power.
It's hard to know exactly what to say, so he goes with what he tells Shouto daily-]
[ Going from staring at their hands to Izuku himself, he blinks a little owlishly, as if he's hearing the words for the first time again. He remembers the way that his left side had heated up to the point of almost catching fire, that first time. He remembers being terrified that he'd burn Izuku because of the overwhelming warmth that was building up in him, that spread through his core.
Shouto feels it again now, but this time he's not as afraid of the blaze he might cause.
He takes his free hand to cup Izuku's cheek, murmuring - ] I love you, too. [ - like it's just theirs, before ducking in to kiss him, emotion in every second of it, his brow furrowed. ]
[He smiles at Shouto, small and loving. The kind of smile that's been reserved just for him ever since they started dating.
He leans himself into Shouto's hand, kissing back with all the love and emotion he can manage. And maybe he is crying, overwhelmed with emotions and love. His own free hand is wrapped around Shouto's shoulders, keeping him there in the kiss.
[ For the most part, Shouto is a lot more action over words when it comes to expressing the sheer, overwhelming feelings that Izuku gives him. But he's never been one to mince words, and remains honest to a fault years later.
Ever since they first started saying the words, he makes sure to drop them every now and then. Now, he just wants to keep saying it - so he pours that into the kiss, staying right there.
But he can almost always tell when Izuku starts to cry, so he pulls back a bit, huffing and brushing his thumb over his cheek. ] I love you.
[Izuku is a mix of action and words because whatever he feels- it tends to be overwhelming.
He kisses back as long as Shouto kisses him, and once he pulls back there's a smile through the tears.]
Shouto... [He doesn't use his given name that often, usually only when they're out hero-ing and sometimes when they're alone in bed. But this- this makes him want to say it over and over.
He moves his arm off of Shouto's shoulders and uses the freed hand to cradle Shouto's face. He could do it, he could kiss away Shouto's scar.]
[ Even though he's heard Izuku calling him by his given name enough times since they met, it still sparks something warm in his chest that radiates over to his left side. He knows he's heating up, but he forces it to just stay a warmth, keeping it under control to the best of his ability.
Without hesitation, he turns into the hand that cups his face, leaning into it with a subtle nuzzle.
Unlike when they first started dating, he doesn't shy away from him, doesn't turn his face away or hide the scar under his red bangs. ]
Izuku. [ But there's a little hesitation there - not because he doesn't trust him, not because he doesn't believe it's possible, but just because it's a lot. That scar is the foundation of many issues and complexes and walls built in his heart, all of which Izuku's found a way into. ]
[He presses his forehead against Shouto's and smiles at the nuzzle. They've come a long way from where they began, haven't they? There was a lot of awkwardness in the first few months of dating, but they've finally settled into something comfortable between the two of them.
He smiles a bit, reassuring and soft, kissing the tip of his nose just because he can. He wants to kiss away that scar, he knows how much it weighs on him. And maybe he doesn't know exactly, but it's enough. This is a heavy subject to breech.]
[ Unable to help it, he has to squeeze his eyes shut when he presses their foreheads together. He has a lot of questions, in his mind, about what will happen when he kisses the scar. Obviously it'll fade away - there's no doubt of that, with the evidence stark with each kiss they leave on one anothers' scars - but his vision is a little bad in that eye. Will that get fixed?
Shouto knows that the issues won't be. Even years later, he's still sorting through them.
But he huffs a small laugh at the kiss to his nose, brief as it is, and scrunches his face before relaxing again. (The movement pulls on the skin of his scar, anyways.) ]
[Emotional scars are much harder to heal over. Physical scars seem a lot simpler in retrospect. A kiss and they disappear like they were never there to begin with. But there's no way to kiss away an emotion.
He'll focus on what he can do, for now.
Gently, he kisses Shouto's scar, watching it fade away.]
I love you. [I want to do as much for you as I can.]
