[ it's so easy to forget that the world around him isn't real.
the people in the crowds move and work like the ones back home, even it's not malls full of electronics and people in the newest clothing and instead people shopping for wares in open markets with candlelight. it's odd, how kenma notices the same ticks in the fictional world of a replicated past. it makes blending in easier, but then again, people still give him dirty looks for the blond in his hair. it makes him so uncomfortable that one of the few things that helped him have peace now make him stick out.
too bad he can't do anything about it, short of cutting off all his hair and that is definitely out of the picture. he'll only stick out more for sure. kenma just has to accept that this time, he is truly, utterly, stuck, and even if he plays it off like some virtual reality video game go awry, there's no changing it. he can watch and change his behavior and clothes as much as he wants, but with one red eye and one golden brown one and his hair he'll always be an outsider.
he's learned to accept it here. after all, he'd rather be an outsider because then he has a chance to get out, to figure this place out and leave. his hands shake with nerves in the night, because he can't be sure if that will ever work out for him.
so much for his simple high school life.
what helps in this desolate place is not being alone. there's kuroo, a kid he never really knew until they found themselves stuck in this fictional hell together. he's a bit obnoxious, but kenma can't deny he's made him feel infinitely safer, and had him taken into the same shrine for a warm bed and meals. that's more than kenma could've done on his own.
kenma wanders through the woods around the shrine, collecting his thoughts without music and video games to distract him to do it instead. if he can't have those, it's better to be completely alone. maybe if he's lucky he'll find some kind of glitch in the system to get him out of here.
all he has to remember is to be back before nightfall. he doesn't need to face those demon horrors again. ]
