[ Stiles Stilinski likes to joke that he never needs to have kids of his own because he's already got a small legion of them that bend to his every whim. Not really (because if they did, wow would his life be easier) but his job in town, while slightly more important, at least in the actual paying way, didn't come with quite so many benefits as working the weekends and occasional morning shifts at the Beacon Hills Community Library. Sure, he could flash his badge all he wanted, but when it came down to it, Stiles enjoyed spending time with the kids here a lot more than his coworkers at the station.
His dad always said it was because they were the same age mentally. Offended or not, Stiles maybe had to agree.
Today is one of the second job days, a peaceful Thursday afternoon where nothing seems to be happening, and all Stiles needs is his badge under his coat and a gun on his hip and he's technically "on duty". He's currently perusing the children's section, tall as a weed and bending down only occasionally to pull fairy tales for the weekend's kids story time, and that's when he spots a little flash of tan skin and brown hair from around the corner. Stiles' mouth undoubtedly turns up in a smile, and he hides it in the pages of Little Red Riding Hood, making exaggerated "hmmm" noises like he has no idea Scott's there. He crashes into his legs as expected and Stiles makes a show of flailing his arms (that's only maybe a little a show) and flops over on the ground, mouth wide open in a huge grin. ]
[ None the wiser, Scott attaches himself securely to the officer turned librarian, burying his face against him and focusing intently so that he doesn't start to shift. Even a flash of gold is a bad thing, his dad had said, and he couldn't let anyone know what he was. It was hard, hiding it from Stiles of all people, but he'd promised his papa wolf that he would do his best to keep the pack safe.
He was gonna be an alpha someday, just like him. If he couldn't protect them now, he wouldn't be able to protect them then.
With a little wiggle, despite the lack of a tail to wag at the moment, he grins up at Stiles cheekily and all dimples. The fact that he's one of his favorite people really shouldn't be any surprise, honestly. Especially since he humors the littlest werewolf when he's really not at all stealthy. ]
I was paying lots of attention! [ Ugh, god, Scott is the cutest thing ever, and Stiles spends a lot of time around really, really cute kids. Where he's on the ground, he rocks forward and grabs Scott up in his arms, pressing a sloppy, wet kiss to his cheek and hugging him tight. ] You're just such a good predator I didn't stand a chance, dude.
[ When he does let go, he ruffles his hair and leans forward on his knees, shiny golden badge flickering a little in the light. It's not like he tries to show it off on purpose--not usually, anyway--but Scott's different, and he's always ready to put on a big show for the kids. ] You're early today. Got any criiimmeee to report?
[ Barely capable of keeping back an excited whine, Scott bursts out into a fit of laughter as Stiles plants the sloppy kiss to his cheek, followed by a loud ewwww because kisses are supposed to be gross. But he contradicts it immediately by throwing his little arms around his neck, holding tight and nuzzling his face into his jaw. ] Dad's teachin' me still. I'll be the best, you'll see.
[ As he's lowered to the ground again, he loosens his hold so that Stiles can have his person back, and blinks giant, dark eyes at him. They're drawn to the badge, as always, and his face splits into a grin in excitement. Stiles is the best, after dad but right up there. It's easy to just fall right into the ""deputy"" mindset, and he straightens up to puff his chest. ] All's quiet on the western front! Eastern's kinda noisy but dad's takin' care of that.
