2. food and drink: the sweet smell of funnel cake and the familiar briny aroma of popcorn draw you over to the food and drink tent. there's cotton candy, candied nuts, and cheep booze, all here for your enjoyment.
3. classic rides: the carousel, the ferris wheel. all carnivals need these classic rides for kids and adults who aren't looking for the excitement of the faster-paced rides. snuggle close to your partner and see if you can see your house from the top of the wheel.
4. something more exciting: this is for thrill-seekers. here you'll find the tilt-a-whirl, the gravitron, the screamin' swing--all the rides designed to make you lose your lunch. hope you didn't have too much cotton candy!
5. freakshow: do they really have a bearded lady in that tent? it's time to find out. buy a ticket and see the greatest oddities the world has to offer.
6. tunnel of love: or perhaps tunnel of mild boredom. the red-tinted lights and quasi-romantic music are meant to make this ride a great makeout spot, if the chemistry is there.
7. hall of mirrors: you and your partner entered, thinking it would be easy to get out again, but dead ends abound in this wacky mirror-maze, and each mirror seems to show a more and more distorted image of each of you.
8. fortune teller: whether one of the creepy machines or the even creepier women dressed up in a culturally insensitive costume, you cross someone's palms with silver and get your future told. will it be happiness forever with your partner, or will ill tidings be bound your way? optional: use to get your fortune!
9. wildcard!: i know i forgot something, probably several somethings, so here's your wildcard for whatever else you can fit into this meme.
I can't say I enjoy the idea of sitting in one of those compartments.
[Maria is staring up at the Ferris wheel, completely unsure of how safe it is. It had seemed like a good idea at the time when they'd gotten in line but now the closer they got... Well she wasn't sure it was such a good idea anymore.]
[ Tilting his head back, hands in his pockets, Sterling raises his eyebrows as he examines the giant wheel. Some hokey music is playing nearby-- the wheel in the sky keeps on turning-- and he's grinning a bit from ear to ear. (Not that that isn't a common thing anyways.)
But then he looks at Maria, pursing his lips in an attempt to tame his grin. ]
I promise, I've been on them a bunch of times. They're totally safe.
[She gives him a distinct look, because she knows he's amused at this situation. Maria can see it in his smile. It's a dry expression but she nods, crossing her arms over her chest.]
I will hold you to that promise.
[If they get stuck at the top she's going to stomp on his foot with her heel.]
[ It's not as if he can hide anything from Maria, so Sterling gives up the ghost and just smiles wide at her, all teeth. But he at least inches closer to her, bumping into her playfully as she crosses her arms and gives him that Look. ]
C'mon, Maria. It'll be fine.
[ And if it isn't, well. He'll accept the punishment. ]
[She's really not sure about that. Why in the world would anyone deem this safe?
Still when they reach the front of the line she gets into the little compartment, smoothing out her skirt as she sits across from Sterling. There's an unsettling creak before they start moving again. Maria may or may not have flinched.]
How did I allow myself to be talked into this...
[But there's a small smile tugging at her annoyed expression. Alright this wasn't too bad.]
[ To be fair, none of the rides at carnivals are particularly safe seeming. They creak and groan and shake, but still. Sterling will ride the awful things, and talk other people into them.
Especially pretty girls like Maria. ]
I dunno, but I'm glad you did.
[ Settling comfortably across from her, he stretches out so that his tennis shoes settle on either side of her feet. ]
[She nudges his foot with her own, just for something to do as she looks at him.]
I suppose whoever convinced me just has a way with words.
[That and well... She enjoyed being able to spend time with Sterling - time alone, which seems exceedingly rare.
Maria is about to say something, but then the ride comes to a halt to let on passengers. The result makes their compartment sway and her to release a surprised shout, hands flying to hold onto the sides.
Of course when she realizes what she's done she flushes. Way to lose your composure there Maria.]
