i also finally thought up one reason for you not to text me if you get some kinda s/o don't tell me because then i'll take betsy all the way out to new york
lacrosse is kicking my ass i am a professional bench warmer i guess its ok mom didn't get to see this

[ Though she feels a soft fondness in response to the text, Diana can't help but also be annoyed. Stiles isn't the most coordinated person in Beacon Hills, and Scott has his asthma, but they're both good runners and they could do a lot if they were just given the chance.
She's irritated on their behalf for the rest of the day. ]
[ Good. She's glad that they're dating again and that Lydia still doesn't know his name. And she knows that it's dumb, because she hasn't said one word to Stiles in the past almost-six years that she's been away from Beacon Hills, despite ample time to since he first got her number. But damnit, she's allowed this.
Hopefully Scott's grades will do better-- Stiles is one of the smartest people she knows, other than Lydia, if there's anyone that can help Scott it's him-- but she's not too worried. He'll figure it out, somehow.
The next morning, she wakes up at seven instead of four, and there isn't the taste of ash and smoke in her mouth when she does. ]
[ thanksgiving had been small in comparison to the year before, and no less somber; even so, spending it with Scott and his mom had been a blessing. For the first time in a year, Stiles sleeps in past 11 and misses his good morning. ]
[ Diana is, as is customary, awake at four and finishing an extensive workout by quarter to six her time. She makes breakfast for when Laura wakes up at six, and they eat together before her sister has to get ready and eventually leave. When eight rolls around on the west coast, she thinks nothing of her silent phone-- Thanksgiving means food comas, and of course Stiles will be nursing one currently.
But then nine comes. And ten. Then eleven, and noon is fast approaching.
She turns her phone over in her hands, until about quarter after.
It takes her another fifteen minutes to hit send. ]
[ The text startles Stiles awake--his phone lets off a noisy chirp and he jumps in bed, staring straight up at the ceiling in confusion. He'd not been expecting a call, or a text, because really the only person that ever talked to him on the phone was Scott, and Scott was snoring on the couch downstairs.
He blearily stares at the phone for a minute, then his eyes snap wide open. He reads it again once, twice, three times--rubs his eyes, makes sure he's not dreaming.
Diana texted him.
There's a confused jolt of feelings that leave Stiles' mouth jaw dropped as he stares at the message. She's been getting his messages all along--she never replied to any of them, but she's been getting them? How is he supposed to feel? Angry, betrayed, upset?
But no, he's Stiles. And he settles for a warm, clenching feeling of joy as he texts back. ]
i can feel you chiding me for forgetting from across the country.
[ Before Stiles gets the chance to shoot a text at her this year, Diana sends one with an image attached. It's the ball dropping, from a couple blocks away via rooftop. ]
[ All Diana does is send him a picture of her, holding up a bottle of beer in a toast with a teasingly "yes, very good Stiles, gold star for you" expression on her face.
[ The moment it hits midnight on the west coast, Stiles' phone will go off with a text from Diana. She thought about waiting for a while, but he's beaten Laura to the punch twice now, so she feels like she ought to do the same. This time, though, she just sends a picture attachment rather than offering him an actual text message.
It's at a myspace angel, of course, but she smiles at the camera of her phone with a notecard in her free hand.
[ To say Stiles is absolutely touched by the gesture would be an absolute understatement. He stares at the picture the next morning like an absolute idiot, goofy grin on his face, and sets it as his phone background.
