With the question, Derek opens his eyes again to look at her, then out across the area around them. A low rumble rolls through him in answer, calm and agreeable. All quiet on the western front, it seemed. But it was good to have some peace and quiet sometimes. ]

[They had never needed a translator, not even when she had been small and new to the family. She always understood him perfectly. Whether it was because of her heightened sensitivity to the supernatural or simply because of the deep bond they had formed early on was unclear, but it didn't matter. The result was the same.]
Things have been quiet lately. I should probably be relieved that things are peaceful, but it makes me nervous.

But nice as the quiet is, he can't help but agree. It's never peaceful for long in Beacon Hills, much as he tries to enjoy it while he can. A questionable noise leaves him, a faint chuff as if he's asking what she thinks. ]

Beacon Hills was aptly named. It seemed to be a beacon for the supernatural sometimes. A giant Bat-signal that said "all things weird and wild, come on over."]
I think we should be careful. I think we should be extra thorough with our patrols, just in case. I don't like it. Not to fall back on an old cliche, but it really has been too quiet. Almost like the woods are waiting for something.

But he nods, once, slowly. His ears swivel back, and his lips curl a little in a silent snarl. He doesn't like it, either, and it only means the worst for Beacon Hills. She's right: it is a beacon for the supernatural, and it always has been, good and bad alike.

[The air was still. She couldn't sense any disturbances. She wasn't psychic, exactly, but sometimes it felt close enough. Enough that her hunches were always worth working from.]
But we should be wary. Maybe do a couple of sweeps in shifts over the next couple of nights.

Another nod, and he tips his head back to offer a slow, long howl out to the preserve. For now, the pack can return to their homes, settle in to wait for orders to be issued. There's no reason for them to be out in numbers right now, not with everything so quiet before the oncoming storm.
As the call ends, he lowers his gaze back to Anita, brow seeming to twitch as if he's raising his eyebrows at her. Home? ]

Home.
[Words were rarely ever necessary. She released him and began to amble down the path that would lead them out to the edge of the woods and, shortly thereafter, bring them home.]
I'm thinking we're due for an after-patrol snack.
