[Bun startles in surprise, turning quickly to face her and stammering. He'd been a little focused on messing with the bandage and lamenting his inability to leave, after all.]
[ Smiling sympathetically, Tooth lifts her wings and tail so that she can sit next to him without sitting on either of them, one hand bracing underneath the sling to keep from jostling it. She's taken her role as caregiver of pooka very seriously-- has, since she first met Bun. ]
[ Subtly, Tooth tilts herself a little so that Bun can see Pasche without really looking beyond what he already is. But immediately after she catches relief, she opens the wing closest to him and scoots where she's seated. Cupping her wing at his back, she leans into his shoulder and reaches to gently touch the bandaging. ]
[ Tooth knows how much Bun hates this, and can easily sympathize with him on it to a certain degree. Watching everyone go out into the south, trying to find survivors and sending them back to the east for their safety... it hurts, if only because of what it does to him.
Carefully, she adjusts his bandages to make sure they're secure, her touch ever gentle. ]
I know, Edwin. I know. But the moment you can move easy, you'll be out there with them.
[ Shifting her wing and arms, Tooth carefully removes the sling, always supporting the smaller pooka as she moves. Once she's freed of it, she nudges gently at Bun and holds the white-and-stained little bundle out towards him.
If she's noticed anything, it's the effect Pasche as on Edwin. ]
If I could make it go by faster, I would. [ If she could do that, she'd try to find a way to turn back time, too. ]
[If anything he looks a little nervous when he takes her, holding the tiny pooka in his lap and scritching at her ears again. She's the little bit of hope he's had left- the first survivor not counting himself. Her presence is relaxing, and even if part of him wants her parents alive-- part of him doesn't want to let her go.]
...It'll be over when it's over.
[Even if it's difficult to believe in, he has to stay sure that things will turn out alright.]
[ His nervousness is actually endearing to her, and Tooth just smiles softly as she brings her legs up. Avoiding her heels to keep from snagging them on her clothes, she folds herself up comfortably and settles. ]
It will be. Until then, I'll take care of both of you.
[ She reaches one hand out, fingers touching his wrist where the new charm to replace the broken one lies. Afterwards, it drops down to gently move the fabric of the sling to reveal a matching one on the little pooka. ]
Well, 'dya look at that, Pasche. All done up an' taken care of.
[He smiles at the little pooka, touching his nose to hers-- before leaning over and repeating the gesture for Tooth. Face sobering, he thanks her not with words, but with a gaze.
[ There was a time when Tooth believed that her charms were simple reassurances, something to let one rest well rather than an effective protection. And then she started to believe in them, because of the way the little gifts lit up Edwin and Jack's faces every time she gave them theirs at the end of meetings between kingdoms.
Now, she believes in them with her all.
Her nose scrunches against Bun's, her smile soft and fond as his own expression sobers.
Rather than saying anything, she leans in and tilts her head up, brushing her lips against his forehead. ]
[King North's advisor had always told the children that believing was the most powerful spell.
Sighing, Bun nuzzles his nose against Tatiana's hair before resting his chin on her head for a moment in a pseudo hug. He leans away then, smiling a little sheepishly as he pets Pasche's hair.]
[ And that had merely cemented it further for her.
Tooth rustles her wings with a soft hum of contentment and reassurance at the nuzzle, tucking her hand against his arm and brushing the rough pad of her thumb against his skin. ]
You're not a worry. Neither of you are, and none of the pooka are.
We're lucky to've got such friends in th' East an' North kingdoms.
[They'd likely not be surviving if the kingdoms hadn't been at peace. He smiles for a moment, softly, and considers it-- no, they'd definitely be gone if not for the connection between the kingdoms.]
And you always will, so long as I have anything to say about it.
[ The strength of the connection between all of them was the one thing that kept hope going, really. So long as they could keep the remaining pooka safe, then something could be done for the southern kingdom. Something that hadn't been done for the western, and that was something she knew her parents deeply regretted most days. ]
[If there was anything else Bunny had always believed, it was that the Western Kingdom would return. Nightlight and Sanderson's work couldn't have gone unnoticed. And if the Western Kingdom could return, then so could the Southern.
And Bunny knew how-- but with so many of the Pooka injured and exhausted, it was going to be quite a while.
He pauses for a moment, the small smile still on his lips.]
...Y' got any idea how many we've found yet? Haven't been able to check.
[The sisters of flight were... fierce about not letting him exert himself.]
[ Shifting and rustling thoughtfully, as she takes her thoughts from the western to the southern-- they would both come back, but right now the southern kingdom and her people were in her care, and Tooth would do all that she could to restore them-- she hums to herself and looks out ahead of them. ]
We're in the twenties now, actually pushing on thirty.
[ Of course they were, they were fierce about many things. ]
[Thirty. Thirty is a good number. Thirty's a number worth living for, hoping for. It's not anything like it should be, but it's a good number to hope for more.
And it's a hell of a lot better than one.
Leaning closer to Pasche and closing his arms around her just a little, Bunny stares out ahead and swallows.]
[ It's much better than one, or even the two that they thought they'd had until more had been found. Tooth knew that no kingdom could survive on thirty, but it was a foundation, where they could rebuild on what they could find. And she had no doubts that they would be able to rebuild.
Bringing her hand up, she gently settles it at the back of his neck, fingers slipping into the hair at the base of his skull. ]
[ Rubbing her fingers in small, massaging circles in his hair, she leans against him a little and reaches her free hand out to smooth back some of Pasche's hair from her face. ]
I can't wait to see it all. I know it's going to be amazing.

---Tati! Ahn- what're you up to?
no subject
Looking for you. How's your foot?

[Still, Bunny's shoulders fall. It's not healing as quick as he'd like and that's obvious-- but what can he do?
Leaning back, he checks on Pasche for a moment. Though his expression doesn't change, his ears flick toward her, and he almost looks relieved.]
...Just... healin' up.
no subject
It won't be much longer.
no subject
...I just want to be out there. They're looking without me.
[It's painful, but part of him knows that this is for the better. He'd be no use out there.]

But he reconsiders, shaking his head and reaching over to gently scratch at one of Pasche's ears, at least for the sake of the calm it brings.]
...'S just a pain in the ass waiting.

And there'll be more. And once we're all done up, you an' Jack can see what I've got planned.

[ Not the same, but nothing would be the same. ]
