[ Perking at the sound of laughter, North inclines his head slightly to the side before he turns fully towards the door, twisting at the waist. Both brows raise, and his eyes narrow in mock intent as he focuses his attention that way. The owl hoots amicably, still amused, and goes about cleaning its primary feathers on its wing as his conversation partner excuses himself in a quiet croon.
He slowly rises, stalking towards the doorway, body hunched forward. ]
[--Blast! She's been caught! Katherine makes herself a little smaller, crouching beside the doorframe, and pressing her back to it as she waits, listening.
She can hear North creeping toward the door, and well- if the bandit king is mad, she doesn't want to be around. The idea of him being mad over something like this, however, is a bit silly-- so she waits, sure she'll be able to sneak out of sight if need be.
And if not, she'll see about scaring that 'king' herself.]
[ North is hardly even annoyed about this minor interruption. If anything, it's a good distraction. He's more amused than anything else. He creeps further towards the door, sliding to stand on the opposite side of the doorway.
After that, he simply waits in silence for the moment that Katherine may peek back out from where she's hidden herself. He's much too large to even try to make himself seem smaller, so he'll just stay in place and wait her out. ]
suddenly AU because why not I'm still stuck on him being Sainted
[ Waiting for her to creep through the doorway, North swoops in once she's within reach. She'll fight like a badger if she feels a threat, and he knows it, but even as the King of Thieves he's hardly a threat to a little girl.
Perhaps he should be concerned about that. ]
Here's the little eavesdropper! [ He picks her up effortlessly, careful of Ombric's things. ]
[ Cackling with laughter, North swings her around so that he can put her over his shoulder, letting her kick her feet without a care in the world. The owl observing them hoots amusement, before it goes back to Ombric's sleeping quarters with its brethren. ]
I have no doubts that you will! What a fierce Queen of Thieves you would make.
[ Carrying her still, he brings his free hand not keeping her secure at her back to her side. He wiggles his fingers into her ribs, grin wide and bright. ]
[ Finally he swings her around, dropping her into a chair so that he can put both of his hands into the tickling force. His reach is focused around her ribs, and he lets out booming laugh in response to her cries. ]
[ No doubt it was, but Nicholas is nothing if not merciful. Ruthless in battle, yes, but his casualties are strangely few in numbers compared to other bandits that seek riches throughout the four kingdoms and beyond. In the north, however, he will do all that he can to keep them out.
If his reputation precedes him, he won't have to do much to protect what's become his treasures. ]
[ He's not particularly surprised by the turn of events, but regardless North makes a show of it as he spins about in circles, as if trying to free himself of the little spitfire attached to him. ]
[Katherine is ready to make a show of it too, fierce in her gestures and bold in word-- until her little sketchbook tumbles out of her pocket.]
Oh-- oops.
[Letting go, she hurries to pick it up- she'd rather not leave it on the floor, after all. There were many important drawings in there, especially of Ombric and their new friend.]
[ Freed of the little girl, North stops spinning about and rights himself, a little dizzy before he turns back towards where she's scampered to pick up her book.
Coming about to where she is, he leans forward, hand braced on her shoulder. ]

Curious, Katherine slowly creeps from her hiding place and peers into the room, hands close to the floor as she crouches.]
...Mister Nicholas?
screeches MY FEELINGS

Oh-- bother, Nicholas! That's hardly fair!
[Squirming a little, she tries to frown, but is too consumed with giggles.]
I was only seeing what you were up to. Have to keep vigilant with a bandit in out midst!

I think my first theft will be you, though!

[She squirms a little more, pushing her palms against his back so she can keep her head up and properly scold him.]
I'll become a better bandit and swindle you of all your things if you do!

NO- no, no no, you're terrible!

Noo- that isn't fair at all-- Nicholas!
[It was difficult to take down a king of thieves when one was ticklish.]

What? You're going to fall over, aren't you. You should be more careful.
no subject
I don't think I've ever done that before.
[ His voice is a little childishly delighted, truth be told. ]

[Grinning, she leans against him and flips through her sketchbook.]
So you were studying with the owls, then.

[ His arm slips around to settle on her collar, entire forearm resting from shoulder to shoulder comfortably. ]
They're interesting to talk to, but I'm still getting the hang of it.

[It's a little jab, but it hasn't got any bite She keeps flipping through her book, nodding.]
I haven't learned too much yet. But they're very good at teasing and getting Ombric very ruffled if he leaves me to take care of them.
no subject
[ He accepts the jab gracefully, peering down at her book as he continues to lean forward. It's not enough to disturb her own leaning, at least. ]
I believe he was trying to talk me into getting him and his friends something to snack on, actually.
no subject
[Flipping past some of the newer drawings, she almost tips the book away.]
If you do it, Ombric will complain. He says they're going to get too big to fly if I'm left in charge of them.
no subject
[ His nose scrunches as she keeps him from seeing her art, but he doesn't press despite the curiosity itching at him. ]
Ombric complains about a lot of things. The elderly often find new ways to.
